I was just teasing. There is no end to the sparkler argument, at the heat death of the universe it’ll be tardigrades and this.

If this isn’t further argument as to why it deserves to be declared ICH I don’t know what is!

Well, we don’t get much of the latter up here. Except for the last month, we’ve possibly had too much and everyone’s in a good mood. Very strange.

What have you got against real ale Jack

On reflection I could have used a better metaphor.

But if you want the bear to go to sleep why have you given it a poke?

It would be very difficult to write an accurate article about the most tied beer market in the world and explain the surrender principle by ignoring that tbh.

Mate, if I struggled with pedants I wouldn't publish my own magazine, don't worry about it, and thanks for reading!

Looks like there was a meeting in government today about access to market for independent brewers. Will be interested to find out more about it in due course.

I’m always transparent with my business, and I wouldn’t accept an invitation to judge as a result were I to receive one. I hope the other invitees hold themselves to the same standards.

Also, does this mean that the names of the judges and their interests will now be made public? I’ve had financial dealings with two of the six finalists, for example, would I be asked to declare this if I was selected as a judge?

For example, were I asked to judge would they make declare that one finalist financially supports my business and another has paid me for consultancy?

I think going in with knowledge of the finalists leaves the competition wide open to abuse. The names of the judges should now be published along with any potential interests they have in any of the companies.

I still think this leaves the competition wide open to bias, unconscious or otherwise. Judging beer should be done blind. I judged a heat for CBOB 2026 the other week and was politely asked not to try and guess what the beer was.

*caveat that I’ve judged heats for this comp and I had no idea what beers I was judging but had I known I reckon my scores might’ve been different.

I don’t! Unconscious bias is a thing.
