It makes a lot of sense that so much of our current dysfunction is that there’s a large group of moderately conservative elites who are political homeless and pissed about it, so they lash out at the Democratic Party for not sufficiently welcoming them.

Again, HE is a good example to see this at work. DEI officers were benign nuisances, useful for cosmetic purposes, especially during Obama years. But role was always in a place in the org chart where it wouldn’t have authority.The pushback started when DEI got say in faculty hires.

A major goal of the Gates grants I worked on was implementing learning analytics, and we had to go back to our program officers and share how many of the schools we were working with needed help just getting campus wide WiFi first.
