Another reason there appears to be a positive correlation between advocates of #Brexit and those in favour of privatised water companies?
Goodness, who would have thought it...🤔

There is a case for mandating that national infrastructure should never be owned by any person or organisation that isn't a UK taxpayer.

Quite so.
I was pointing out the theoretical risk, used by fans of privatisation, to justify their 'rewards'.
In reality, all too often, investors want to rig the system. To exploit it, if you will, such that they actually privatise the profits but nationalise the losses.

Investors take a chance. A gamble, if you will.
They take profits, they stand the loss (or should).
So if water companies go bust, they are technically worthless, and should revert to public ownership at no cost to the taxpayer.

We should almost certainly expect water bills to exceed energy bills at home point.
But doesn't this also depend on the predicted 8 million population increase?
Which may not happen.

I've another question.
Why have I seen no coverage of this movement on the #BBC?
It's on France 24, but nothing on the BBC.
Has the BBC been told not to tell us about #NoKings protests?

I don't understand why there's no noticeable coverage of these protests on the BBC?
On France 24 the #NoKings marches have been well covered.
Is there some kind of embargo on #BBC coverage?

Brexit is a particularly interesting case study.
It can be criticised on several points.
Crucially, most relevant to this conversation, many act as if it were the only referendum on our membership, whereas I'm old enough to recall the one in the 1970s. That one endorsed membership.

Exactly. The trouble is, some folk act as if some referenda ARE forever.

In Australia we have Carers' Pensions.
I'm surprise the UK doesn't.

A choice was made, absolutely. But the problem with picking a single point in time is that it can be seen by some as a permanent and eternal mandate.
Democracy, it should be noted, is a process, and no such single event is permanent nor irrevocable.

I was only trying to make a that the people of Scotland surely have a right to choose their own future, independently of any restrictions imposed from Westminster. A declaration to that effect could, though it doesn't have to be, be supported by the DofA.

I guess your objection might be to the use of 'cherry picking' based on a possible definition as a logical fallacy, but for clarity, I meant simply that it can also be defined as 'picking out the good bits and choosing to disregard the not so good bits'.

I'm interested, can you explain what's bad about taking good ideas or learning from history?
comment in response to
post
The thing about history though, is not to replicate it precisely, but rather to cherry-pick the useful bits, learn and be inspired to make things better.
Many argue the union is an anachronism and rather than freeze it forever in its present form, it should be dissolved in favour of federation.

It also has a repeated word ("ends"), which would seem to cast doubt on its provenance?

Can't help thinking that there might be other galaxies with intelligent life forms that, having viewed human transmissions thus far, have been busy inventing cloaking devices to make theirs 'UNobservable'.

If that were actually true, they would have reformed the marginal pricing mechanism for electricity by now.
They haven't.

One might argue they had rather more substance than any of the arguments put forward to advocate for #Brexit.

I'm always surprised the SNP doesn't cite the Declaration of Arbroath to support declaring UDI.
comment in response to

Given the evidence of recent years, I'm amazed that the Scots haven't simply declared UDI.

I don't know the details, but as others have said for many years, it appears that in many countries the system functions to private the profits, yet nationalise or taxpayer fund, the losses.

Well worth reading the article. 100% agree with the message.

My wife had a Nissan Micra for 15 years. It always started first turn of the key, come rain or shine. Never broke down. Just routine maintenance.
Daughter drives it now.
Still going strong.

So that's National Grid that's NOT nationwide in the US, not National Grid in the UK, which IS nationwide, but confuses customers by renaming a DNO (Western Power Distribution) and calling the DNO, I kid you not, "National Grid".
Someone, somewhere, needs to get better at naming companies...

Well, "thoughts and prayers" are cheap, and don't inconvenience the super-wealthy.

Both the two biggest parties support the idea of forcing students into debt, citing a shortage of cash in the public purse.
Yet the UK isn't short on wealth, it's richer now than when university was free.
Post-war UK built millions of houses, the NHS & National Grid. #TaxWealthNotWork

Maybe it takes a song to rally a 'movement'...
Warning: you'll need a good 20+ minutes to listen all the way through, but, young folk especially please note, if you haven't heard this before, it's worth it.

What's their policy on providing 7kW overnight EV charging for guests?

Only if both are OTA 'connected', which can never be 100% guaranteed, especially given security concerns. In any case, I speak of a country lane, used also by tractors and many ICE cars, inc some classic & veterans.
AVs may work in many places, even most, but never all.
comment in response to

I regularly use a lane so narrow that if two cars meet, one has to reverse.
How will they cope with that?
