Josh Hawley: "The right thing to do is not to cut Medicaid ... it ought to be just a basic foundational principle: It is wrong to cut healthcare for the working poor. And that's what we're talking about here. My state is a Medicaid expansion state."

Trump and Vance wanted Zelensky to thank them for an aid package that Vance voted against and Trump opposed.

MAGA wants peace in the same way a guy that beats his wife just wants a happy marriage.

A lot of people are going to die from this

Zelensky found out what it was like to be a US governor in a blue state asking Trump for medical supplies during the pandemic. Or disaster relief after a wildfire or storm. It’s not his money, but he fully expects you to beg and plead for it and tell him how wonderful he is.

Just read this graf. Share it with people you know who don’t pay attention to politics or news.

Every single Democratic governor and attorney general needs to do this -- if only to make it clear to voters *right now* that the firings and funding freezes that are about to hurt their states badly are the work of Trump-Musk in Washington. Get ahead of this now, or get blamed for it later.

interesting to me that no one condemns republicans for “racial essentialism” when their most prominent voices — say, the literal president and vice president of the united states — believe that citizenship has an ethnic and racial basis. www.thebulwark.com/p/vance-immi...

I love leaving voice mails for my senators where I say things like "the USPS is very important to our country" as if I'm helping a small child with a book report or describing our civilization to an alien

Democratic Leaders Stand Real Still In Hopes No One Notices Them

Government efficiency is when every federal agency has to send a daily emergency email to its workers telling them to ignore another daily email from a different department trying to fire them without knowing what their jobs are.

After playing a fictional member of the Resistance a long time ago, I never could have imagined it ever happening in real life, but here we are.

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Goodnight friends ❤️ Get some sleep. Every day, I give up for twenty minutes but decide to push through on the twenty-first. Survival is a ritual, a ceremony, and a practice. Rudy Francisco, Excuse Me as I Kiss the Sky

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths

Yep. We all know the deaths are coming; for now, not intentional, but due to gross negligence and the routine terrible conditions of ICE and BOP detention and the medical neglect which is routine in those facilities. And when the first deaths do happen, the White House will go "so?"

It's annoying how clearly this is going to play out. They gut the FAA. Therefore, the FAA can't do its job well because it was gutted. Therefore, they say "The FAA sucks, we have to privatize it." which is what Project 2025 wants to do. They're manufacturing the crises for their end goal.

There's a Crisis of Masculinity in this country and the only way to solve it is to let me act like a cross between a baby and a movie villain

Taking a ton of people off their psychiatric meds cold turkey and then dropping them all on a ranch together sounds like a realty show in the worst Robocop future

Quid pro quo corruption. So shameless. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

Repeatedly telling us how horrible they are.

White House actions to pause refugee resettlement and funds to NGOs have stranded hundreds of organizations and thousands of refugees legally on U.S. soil.

When North Korea thinks you’ve gone too far with crazy shit.

Liberals are quick to mount the "kindness" argument on immigration, and then they say our economy depends on them. It's none of that. Our government spent the last 100 years sabotaging their democracies, stealing their resources, and destroying their environment. They have every right to be here.

I'm not even sure I can eat anymore faces, I'm pretty full of face actually -Leopards right now

Oh.

vance is lying and knows he’s lying but even if he weren’t, “separation of powers means the president is an elected despot” may be true in some other political system but it has never been true in the american political system

In case it’s not obvious yet, they’ll cut funding and then use its return as financial blackmail to force states into adopting their preferred laws, including deregulation, austerity, destruction of worker and civil protections, and basically follow the playbook the US has used around the world.

*screams into the void*

Just saw a farmer say, "you don't have to admit you were wrong, you have to admit you were lied to, " and idk that seems like a good framing to call people in

Under fascism, no one is safe. Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc. Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations. Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.

NOT NOW, MELVILLE. READ THE ROOM.

New, from me: So much is happening, so quickly. The purpose of shock and awe is to bewilder and overwhelm. It is important not to look away, or get discouraged. Try to discern the what is a big and real threat. Here is my best effort to do so. 🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/meditation...

James Madison wrote of the necessity of the separation of powers: “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive & judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elected, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”

just saying: it's possible that "I'm gonna dramatically constrict my state capacity while plotting dramatic imperial expansion, and expanding my set of internal enemies while alienating most of my foreign allies" is the beginning of a world-historical masterstroke. but also possible that it isn't

"The goal has always been clear: destroy functioning government, cripple the nonprofit sector and obliterate the hard-earned bonds and benefits of 80 years of post-war American progress." @guitarwatson.bsky.social www.democracydocket.com/opinion/trum...

After “How do we stop Trump?” the second most common question I’ve received is “How do we stop Musk?” Here's what we as ordinary citizens can do—a clear, easy, and meaningful call to action each person can and should take. No paywall. Please read, act, & share. www.qasimrashid.com/p/how-do-we-...

The ACLU and other organizations have filed a lawsuit challenging Trump’s outrageously illegal shutdown of all immigration law at the southern border. www.aclu.org/cases/refuge...

Murphy: "This is a constitutional crisis that we are in today. Let's call it what it is."

Easy to think here that we're all overwhelmed by the news & aware of much of it. As a professor, though, I get to talk to large groups of educated, lib/left young people, *majority* of whom have only the barest awareness of what's happening. So talk to your IRL friends. You'll be surprised.

i think we need to reexamine the economic system that allowed one person to accumulate enough wealth to literally purchase the us government

Incredible to see a president tanking the world’s economy simply because he doesn’t understand it and is too dedicated to belligerent posturing to learn

Unfortunately the Constitution did not foresee a situation where the president does whatever he wants and says "What are you gonna do about it dork"

as we approach tax season it would be nice to know if we still have a federal government

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

Here are the options on the table (which are not mutually exclusive): 1. House Dems bring articles of impeachment* 2. Senate Dems play constitutional hardball and obstruct everything 3. State AGs litigate (and prosecute) everything they can 4. Citizens march en mass
