Are you sure that ending ICE would be such a bad platform in the general? We've all seen their abuses. Also, I'm not convinced this makes Dems appear weak on the border (any more than we actually were, that is) because the "porous border" arguments hit home notwithstanding ICE.

Getting a very De Niro shrug from De Niro when I ran past him while we were both trying to hold onto our stuff during a windstorm in UWS.

I forget, did the convention signs say “deport only criminals” or did they say “mass deportations now”?

Who are the 45% who think that on-again, off-again tariffs at the president's whim is a solid dealmaking strategy or provide any incentive to businesses to relocate to the U.S.?

The original post referred specifically to those who have known no other home but America. And it's not exactly a secret that many are being deported to places that are far from peaceful.

It takes unusual insight to make a video that is so relatable for a song about a psycho killer. As the Heads said themselves, it actually does make the song better -- something I wouldn't have thought possible.

Quotas are illegal, and are not what this is about. Casting a wider net and doing the work to welcome diverse applicants can simply yield more and better applicants, no quotas needed.

I’ve heard this for years from a friend who teaches high school. Many of his students can’t read the wall clock.

Weird how they can somehow square that with a view that says the same thing about Trump.

These are state actors. Why shouldn't people be able to put their names and faces online when we are entitled to do that for other state actors?

Funny that the court uses a citation to a similar holding as the source for "human experience." Also, one of the "totality" factors was the fact that the defendant was not legally allowed to possess marijuana -- not sure how this goes to probable cause?

You remember when and how she became the candidate, right?

She had 100 days to campaign.

Your argument is that her position "was terrible and her speech sucked," so no, it's not a debate. As far as "choosing to let Trump win," it doesn't make much sense to blame those who campaigned and voted against him. But happy for you that you feel vindicated.
comment in response to

Her platform was broadly in line with a majority of American voters, but I'm not going to debate this with you. I would encourage those who agree with your political views to vote in greater numbers next time, however, because Trump is considerably worse than whatever you think of Harris.
comment in response to

I understand disagreeing with her position, although I do not share your view. My point is that against considerable odds, she put together a convention that achieved its intended purpose, and I believe she would have decisively beaten Trump with more time to campaign.
comment in response to
post
I disagree. The party was far from united heading into the convention (how could it have been otherwise, given the timing?), but her team kept the convention on-message and introduced her to the country in a very favorable manner. Great speech, too.

What’s funny about this argument is that if Biden’s aides actually approved orders contrary to Biden’s internal approval process, Biden himself would and must be the one to call it out.

She also delivered one of the best DNC national conventions in ages, somehow rapidly coalescing a divided part to pull it off. She is a force of nature who would have demolished Trump with more time to work.

No voter gets to absolve themselves of positions their candidate explicitly took. Besides, I would bet a paycheck that she finds a way to vote Republican again next time.

Oh, I entirely agree that one doesn't purchase an ostentatiously ridiculous mobile behemoth to just get along with people. But I wasn't really looking out for your best interest in this situation as much as I was imagining an outcome that I would find funny.

Reasonable view, which you formed based on observations of public behavior. This is why Tapper's coverup narrative fails.

Both can be true! What do you do with a sometimes-feeble-seeming leader who is also savvy and astute, and clearly in charge? Those closest to him, including his cabinet, felt he was fit to serve. Others, including many in the media, disagreed. It's not gaslighting to have an opinion.

It's hard to see the scandal in "hiding" something that every political pundit debated seriatim for months. I mean, we all knew Biden was declining but also that he could still explain an issue and still had his personality and wit. Reasonable minds obviously would differ on what to do with that.

I believe it, but in the following narrow sense: Everyone at every school has met snobbish assholes. I suppose someone at an Ivy might meet a snobbish asshole and assume that is some Ivy thing. Thing is, it probably is just a snobbish asshole.
