Now, Dr Burke is set to run her first-ever marathon at an altitude of 5356m to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support while also exploring future research collaborations in Nepal, including helping local communities access pre- and re-habilitation remotely through telemedicine.

She said "although it felt surreal to be applying learnings from my research on prehabilitation to my own life, it gave me proof that I could still be fit and strong." and that βstaying active helped me tolerate my treatment β I experienced few side effects and it also helped me psychologically.β π§

Dr Burkeβs work focuses on prehabilitation and rehabilitation strategies to support patients before, during and after cancer treatment. Using this to help enhance the effectiveness of her treatments, Shaunna created a strict diet and exercise plan, including runs to and from treatment sessions. πββοΈ
