Convenience, but it would be very very hard to pull off on western countries, it works in China because whichever company is that has the everything app has a huge ecosystem they have adoption of that they can plug into.

Heroku is more about the ux, basically they are slapping their ux on top of kubernetes.

Lightsail ec2 instance, custom golang cli using dagger and ansible sets up the infra and does docker compose stack deploys.

Noisy neighbors, separation of concerns, some teams like to do whatever they want, many smaller clusters are often easier than a few big giant ones, probably more I can't think of 😂

I use Kong ingress and it works pretty well, haven't converted to gateway yet.

I would say some of the Nordic countries are probably the closest you will get.

What's happening is also not isolated to the US, last year during the Portuguese elections the communist coalition almost won, seems like multiple countries around the world are becoming ultra conservative and isolationist.

In history have they ever been the good people?, they always use their wealth to make more wealth and sponsor policies that work towards their world view, maybe Mackenzie Scott, but she doesn't seem to vet who she donates to very well.

I ran talos on the lab for a while with no issues but ran into edge cases since I wanted to run microvms on it etc, so switched back to Ubuntu.

They basically became almost like a vps host and ran into all the same problems they face.

Well their competitor coder realized that several years ago and came up with a very similar architecture, but I think gitpods problem is they jammed things into the app hosting portion of k8s instead of using the core api/controllers/operators instead.

Not yet just Claude, Cody does support using ollama for local inference but I run my inference using a nuc that uses a Inteln100 chip and a external GPU enclosure , but the chip doesn't support one of the instructions sets ollama needs for inference 😞
