There are certainly cases where people who have “persuaded” others to commit suicide have been charged with and convicted of murder. So it is in fact legally speaking exactly the murder that OP stated.

A Japanese friend tells me that Japanese media have been reporting the U.S. tariffs as a boon for Japanese budget retailers who were able to quickly hire the factories that had previously been producing stuff for the U.S. to produce stuff for them instead…

Right - apparently some people in Germany use special toothpaste once a week, but most people I knew there just used normal fluoride toothpaste.
comment in response to

From Wikipedia:
“under 14 million people (approximately 2%) in Europe receive artificially-fluoridated water … in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Spain, and Serbia.”
I know de-fluoridation is happening in the US for stupid reasons but it’s not unusual elsewhere.

I imagine toothpaste should be fine – I lived in Germany for more than 10 years and they don’t allow fluoride in the water and I never had any issues (nor do most people who live in Germany)

Nazi-era art was absolutely tacky and embarrassing! Unfortunately it’s not easy to google for examples of. But it really was this level of shameless kitsch

Interesting, it looks just like the official Signal app except for the words “TM SGNL” in the PIN verification dialogue

The US press in general is also just terrible at confrontational interviewing. (Compare with their peers on the BBC for example)

Many slogans require explanation, but if the explanation usually has to begin with “wait, this doesn’t actually mean what you think it means!”, it’s probably not an effective slogan?

Convenient – can combine it with the trip to Canada/Mexico for this year’s flu vaccine

This is like how people in Brooklyn or Queens say they’re “going into the city” to say they’re going to Manhattan, which astonished me at first, as if Brooklyn were something less than urban
(Manhattan being an island makes the boundaries clear in this case tho)

Marriage certificates aren’t mentioned in the law. The birth certificate route requires current photo ID with matching name.
comment in response to

You can use your ID if it proves citizenship, which for most people means passport. Most Real-ID cards do not prove citizenship.

comment in response to

Access to birth certificates is usually pretty easy - but the name has to match your current photo-ID name, which is not the case for many people, and the law doesn’t appear to allow the usual solution of birth-certificate + name-change document
comment in response to
post
Unless they have a passport - the law makes no provision for those who have changed their names to use their birth certificates
comment in response to

Update: alas, the text of the bill says a photo ID plus a birth certificate, no mention of bridging documents for people whose names no longer match

It’s enough to get a passport etc. and in every other context I’ve needed, so I assume it could be enough here; need to see the exact wording of the bill

Probably because most soy sauce sold in the US is already made in the US (even the Japanese brands, although it’s a slightly different recipe than those brands use in Japan)

Kikkoman has been making soy sauce in the US for decades (although we always buy the version imported from Japan anyway)
