i also frankly think a lot of you would do well to actually talk to anyone who serves in the guard or who is active duty military, because it's clear to me that these people are mostly an abstraction for you

"Peaceful protest," when used by governments, police departments and most non-profits today, means something very different than what civil rights organizers meant by "nonviolence." It means passive, polite, ignorable and easily controllable...

When I went through the line, I commented on how they were serving the big Kirkland brand all beef dogs. And the station chief manning the grill said
“you want a tiny Oscar Meyer weenie, talk to a cop….HA!”
They also sold fitted youth bicycle helmets for $15. Great civic events.

And all of this is anecdotal from my long experience in the Army and training the Guard. I haven’t done rigorous academic experimentation to prove any of this.
But the history — especially recent history — does seem to support the thesis.
Don’t panic about the Guard, panic about the LE assholes.

Individually, who do you suppose will personally identify more with the protesters? A LE officer whose job it is to arrest, hurt, or kill US citizens or some E-4 who wears the uniform one weekend a month and works for UPS the rest of the time?

The Guard has a military hierarchy with a strict chain of command and is used to operating with lots of restrictions on US (and foreign!) soil. Military members have been saying for years that our ROE overseas was tighter than LE’s here in the US.

I could write pages and pages on my theories as to why the Guard is far less likely to wield violence against civilians than LE is but I think it boils down to mission, organizational culture and structure, and the demographics and attitudes of individual members.

This is all so ludicrously dumb. You can't master calculus in two weeks. AI provides students with no useful insight into how to study beyond what deep down they already know: You have to go to class, read, do the work, try to understand.
