The top economics journal in the world nearly published an article that, to all appearances, is 100% bullshit. It claimed that AI accelerates scientific discovery. An MIT PhD student appears to have used generative AI to fabricate the whole thing, data and all.

By the by, here’s another illustration I did a few years ago featuring the Ratcliffe on Soar towers, of the 2010 film Skeletons, for my 100 Ghosts thing. Really worth watching if you like your films a bit spooky, a bit sad and a bit funny. And what a location (there’s actually a boatyard there).

BREAKING NEWS: Otters in hats.

Lmao

Unfortunately we've had a last-minute loss from the Routledge Companion to Video Games and History, and so if there is anyone who'd be interested in contributing a chapter on the history of India in video games (from any perspective, range of case studies welcome) please get in touch asap with me!

Ah, #Taskmaster and the escape of Baynton's balls This series is fab, I love them all

Edge of Darkness is one of those ones i have watched so many times, the cast is spot on, & Joe Don Baker is one of the gems in it

The Labour leadership, man. The frogs who boiled themselves.

I don't really have anything useful to add to what everyone else is saying about the government's policy direction, on this and other issues. I'm just fucking furious.

My latest Forbes article is all about SUVs. Specifically, it delves into two new research papers - one from traffic engineering, and one from public health - that shows how these increasingly-popular (and increasingly large) vehicles come with major downsides 🧪 www.forbes.com/sites/laurie...

Everyone involved in targeting this group is useless. An embarrassment www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

Me on the way home from Aldi when I said I was just grabbing some milk.

Shitting on music, art, fashion, and/or games because "we're in a crisis and should focus on serious things™️" is the "I'm not like other girls" of politics. It requires you to set aside all awareness of how those topics inform and intersect with serious things so you can feel better doing nothing.

👏👏👏

Don't take it from me. Take it from the government's own assessment: Everything Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves have said about nature protection blocking house building is big fat shining lie. A lie now being locked into legislation before Parliament. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Turns out, putting a massive iPad on all car dashboards was a terrible idea?

A little purr for you from the galaxy far, far away. (Sound on) 🐈‍⬛🤍 #cat #purr #maythe4thbewithyou

On the one hand it's slightly annoying that I can hear what the neighbours are watching; on the other it appears to be the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and who can be mad at that?

Do, or do not. There is no try. Happy #StarWarsDay! #MayTheFourthBeWithYou

Heads up! If you’re near Richmond Park, the entire Isabella Plantation is now in bloom. It’s the best time of year to visit! (And it’s free.) 🌱

I mean sure, but also the last time I tried running to catch one, I spectacularly failed to mind the gap, tripped into the train, and managed to both sprain my ankle and bruise my dignity.

I love that there is peer reviewed research calling ChatGPT bullshit so much 😭

just throwing it back out there that when you use alt text it automatically hides the content from those who have muted words/phrases related to the image. so it’s not just an accessibility feature, it’s also a basic kindness of not making people constantly see things they don’t want to see!!! 🥰🫶

IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you suddenly and without warning get a case of the Bad Brain, you're probably about to get your period. Your friends and partners love you. You are smart and capable. You're doing a good job. The weight of the world is not on your shoulders. You will not always feel this bad.

this kinda blew my mind, how accurate this is as a model

I'm sick of seeing this deceptive pattern after booking something, where there is "cash back" offered using a £ symbol yet there is a monthly cost associated with it that is shown without a £ symbol hidden in a block of text that clearly wants to hide it.

all hail Ozymandias, King of Kings (or, at any rate, King of Magdalen)

Here is a baby otter to make you feel better about everything.

No study, however necessary, means academics get to ignore the ethical implications of their work.

What makes ChatGPT a problem is precisely because most of us won’t know when it’s wrong.

Oh no, my hand slipped... off to be the hero of Kvatch. Again. 😉 Trying not to repeat my first ever playthrough when I accidentally stole Prior Maberel's horse (rookie error)
