This has been something I've been doing more & definitely seeing it help ♥️
Doing a thing really helps take away the power from the Anxiety Monster's *spiral thoughts*

They're actually bigger! They're just a tad longer than my index finger
4 adults & we counted 20 juveniles (she needs another terrarium)

My wife's cockroach babies (and their babies!)

Further evidence of my wife being a 'cockroach person':
Got a burger from the drive-thru & realized too late we had no ketchup. She instantly says 'oh! I have some!' and dogs out a random single packet buried under various items in the center console
It's not a bad trait— it's all about survival!

I know there's some related work in interpretability that have tried & looked at what happens when attempting to remove singular 'concepts' from the final model
From what I remember (and would suspect) is that you find the concept removed imperfectly or the model makes new 'mistakes'

I personally haven't but I've heard from others who like it!
I'd say I'm just used to the 'type-command' lifestyle over a nice TUI, but it's probably more accurate to say I'm just too lazy to learn something new 😅 I've been trying to break that habit to be frank

Haha It is! But then I feel like where is the line of defining 'algorithm'? Is there one?
'i only look at posts when my partner places a phone unexpectedly in my field of view' is also an 'algorithm' XD

Yes!
I've been using a related alias
```
lg = log --all --color --graph --pretty=oneline --abbrev-commit
```
for years that I sometimes I forget it's not standard XD

Totally agree— if I had to lean in one direction, flat code is best to learn
If you have the time, it can help to function-ate the 'unimportant' bits. But if you do too much, then you risk making it difficult to actually understand the code (versus the broad concepts)

This might be the most ruthless thing I've experienced this week & that includes my bike being stolen
But also, I couldn't resist giving my model a little personality inspired from this...

ahh the good ol' days of nlp— it's just wild what the field has been able to do with the attention mechanism

^ this is so me too! But everyone I know tends to be night owls, so I get the added benefit of no disturbance in my morning

I'm unfortunately the opposite where I definitely do my best coding early in the morning (bit of a morning bird)
If & when I code at night, it gets me all wired (ha pun?) and then I'll have a hard time sleeping (but still wake up ungodly early)

This is definitely a balance that can be hard to hit
I know it's not quite the same scenario, but when I was teaching DS & ML I'd use functions to remove some of the details that I thought weren't as relevant. Not necessary step_0(), step_1(), ... but more like details within steps were functions

Only as good as it's training data: no code runs correctly the first time...

People can say whatever they want about LLMs, but I'm still astounded what these models seem like they capture essentially by trying to reproduce the language(s) we feed it
I feel it really says something about language that's ironically hard to articulate

As a parent, I feel this. I feel half my battles are convincing my kids on how to survive & not game-over by their own hands

Mr. Sparky! I haven't seen you since I accidentally put a live wire in my mouth... for the 2nd time (long story)
Good to hear that your house is still standing after that 😅

That is pretty sweet!!
I had just recently shared some bourbon from a small scale distillery & they were like 'wait, I don't need a chase!' and I was like 'because it's *good* liquor'

so far it definitely sounds like the spiritual successor of normconf XD
maybe we can trick @vickiboykis.com into at least being a part of it ; )
But seriously, if it does evolve into something real I know there would be excited folks (at least I would be)

I'm all for a spiritual successor— Normconf is perfect being a one-time thing but I'd love to see something like it again, whatever form that manifests as ♥️
