There are 3 tram, or Metro Ligero lines, in Madrid, connecting at different parts of the network with the extensive Metro system. I paid a quick visit to Line 1 in 2016 and saw the vintage tram on display at Pinar de Chamartin station. #TramTuesday

Sheffield was the second UK city to reintroduce trams to its streets in the 90s. In 2018 its network was extended further into South Yorkshire with the introduction of tram-trains that shared the heavy rail route to Rotherham. #TramTuesday

The Lille tramway connects to the towns of Roubaix and Tourcoing. It’s sometimes called the Mongy, after Alfred Mongy, the engineer who created it in the early 20th Century. These interurban lines persisted into the 21st despite other lines closing and the arrival of the metro. #TramTuesday

Another cracking episode this week, although considering the meta vibe that’s been around of late I’m disappointed the Doctor didn’t pop into the TV station in Lagos to look for missing episodes.

Trams have been running in Luxembourg City since 2017. And like all public transport in Luxembourg, they are completely free to ride. #TramTuesday

I’d planned to visit Liège a couple of weeks after their brand new tramway entered service. But due to its opening being delayed, when I rode it yesterday it was the first day of service. However, the second day won’t be until tomorrow - there’s a strike today. #TramTuesday

It’s not a tram, but it is England’s first light rail system. The Tyne and Wear Metro opened in 1980, revitalising some former Tyneside Electrics routes that had been in decline and were run by BR diesel units, with the addition of tunnels under Newcastle city centre. #TramTuesday

A new pope needs to be chosen and ITV hasn't had a big Saturday night hit show for years. What about bringing back an old format with a slight tweak?

The trams in Rotterdam have been operated by Rotterdamsche Electrische Tram since 1927. I only had a brief ride on my way to the Kinderdijk windmills, so I’m afraid these quick snaps aren’t the best photos. #TramTuesday

The modern trams in Barcelona are divided into lines T1-3 in the west (Trambaix) and T4-6 in the east (Trambesòs) with a link under construction. Also: Tramvia Blau, the heritage tram that runs up to the Tibidabo funicular. #TramTuesday

The Keifuku Electric Railroad in Kyoto is known locally as the Randen. Although it’s mostly separated-at-grade running it is legally classified as a tram. There are two lines, one of which runs to Arashiyama, location of the famous bamboo forest. #TramTuesday

Helsinki has several tram lines, plus a light rail line and metro. Its unidirectional trams only have doors on the right-hand side and one cab end. These pics (and my banner) were taken during a brief stopover on our way to Tokyo. #TramTuesday

Brussels has an large tram network, with lines operating in tunnels as pre-metro. Its tram museum is brilliant. The 1st time I visited was on a day I thought it’d be closed. But it had been hired out for an event, so I got to wander round by myself for free! Good times. #TramTuesday

I had to cancel my trip to Dublin last year, so I haven’t had the chance to check out the Green line of the Luas yet. These pics are from 2014 on the original (now the Red) line at Connolly station. #TramTuesday

The light green line at the bottom of the tube map is the London Tramlink. Running through Croydon to Wimbledon in the west and Elmers End, Beckenham Junction and Addiscombe in the east. #TramTuesday

The low-floor trams of Bilbao go past the Guggenheim Museum. They’re run by the Basque rail company Euskotren, so I didn’t realise at the time that I could travel on them for free! They were cheap enough and linked in nicely with the metro too. #TramTuesday

Slightly buried the lede but: if you're a queer couple and you want to get married ASAP in a state with strong protections before Obergefell inevitably gets overturned by fascists I will do an officiate for you for free (if you drop by the shop when I'm here just call/email ahead to make sure I am).

Happy #TramTuesday to my followers in Honolulu, especially if you’re riding on the Skyrail. It’s Mittwoch for the rest of us, so here’s some Cologne Stadtbahn. Separated at grade rather than actual street-running and runs as U-bahn in the city centre. Some routes use similar LRVs to Manchester.

No trams, trolleys or streetcars run in New York City any more, but across the river in New Jersey there is the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system. It’s a bit of a misnomer, since the extension to Bergen County was never completed, but it does run through Jersey City and Hoboken. #TramTuesday

Gigantic news in the World o’Trams! Been waiting for the hybrid tram/funicular in Trieste to reopen for ages. Closed in 2016 after an accident it looks like the wait is finally over. Hmm, the Paris-Milan high-speed services resume in spring after 2023’s landslide. Hmm, indeed…

Always amuses me that the most famous image of the Thing is actually a Thing imposter. #comics #JackKirby

If you see this post a gif from one of your comfort series.

I’m spending a few days in Lisbon this week, so obviously it’s all about the “electricos”. But there are also more modern LRT type trams on route 15. Las time I was here I also went on the Metro Sul do Tejo, the modern trams on the south side of the Tagus. #TramTuesday

For 2022’s third Five Nations Week o’ Trams (goal: ride trams in 5 countries in a week), I rode the tram network of Basel, Switzerland. The first 2 pics are in the city itself, the 3rd is at the Weil-am-Rhein terminus in Germany and the 4th is at the end of the line to St Louis, France. #TramTuesday

I’m more of a lurker, but as a small remedy to that I’m posting pics every Tuesday from each of the tram (or LRT) systems I’ve visited. Starting with Manchester, here’s the only original Metrolink that wore the newer livery and the 1987 replica of Blackpool 619 at Heaton Park Tramway. #TramTuesday

Boxing day, lazy and feeling slightly under the weather, back to the day job tomorrow. Hope everyone had a good X-mas. Here's a quick oil sketch of Peter Cushing from the movie Dr Who. #PeterCushing #Hammer #DrWho
