By taking public ownership off the table from the start, the government’s "largest review of the water sector since privatisation" is just moving deck chairs on the Titanic. Privatisation is not a problem - it is THE problem. Sign my letter to Sir Jon Cunliffe: actionnetwork.org/petitions/si...

Thames Water's future in doubt after investor KKR pulls out. TW is financially, environmentally and morally bankrupt, can't be run for profit. Govt must not bail it out, let it collapse, buy for low price, end Thatcher's curse, start a new era.

The Day After…..

LOL, this BBC documentary about "Broken Britain" talks about recent shocks to the economy without mentioning Brexit. Absolute cowards.

Plans to upgrade UK’s own Weapons of Mass Destruction breaches our international obligations & destroys any moral authority we might have had to deter other countries eg Iran from seeking to acquire their own nukes. Instead we should be finally signing UN Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

🚨 "Reform UK have reached a 'tipping point' where Britain's electoral system works for them rather than holding them back", according to expert analysis ⏰ Labour needs to wake up & get serious about electoral reform - starting with a National Commission 🌹 #Labour4PR

This should be the final nail in the coffin for Thames Water. It needs to be turned into a public benefit company and Ofwat needs to be scrapped and replaced with a real regulator with teeth. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

#NHS treats it’s Resident Doctors appallingly From random allocation of jobs, lower pay, little options for choosing holidays & days off, limited parking, no provision for food overnight, no office space, moved from job to job every 4-6months Add £100k plus student debt

I struggle to understand why doing deals with Trump is said to involve trade-offs (and the massaging of egos); when doing deals with the EU amounts to a ‘sell-out’. It’s widely held, and utterly unserious, thinking.

Doctors have ‘saved’ the Government, Taxpayer & NHS, over £10bn since 2008 If pay had increased in line with inflation Annual saving for the public of £2bn in today’s money, or £1/week/taxpayer Should Doctors & other #NHS staff subsidise the NHS or be paid fairly? @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social

"..without the Empire, Britain would be no more than “a cold and unimportant little island where we should all have to work very hard and live mainly on herrings and potatoes,” ... (EU membership - one of three leading members - saved us, but we threw that away) english.elpais.com/culture/2025...

The legal duties on the UK to prevent genocide cannot wait for a court to tell the UK Government that a genocide has already happened. I've signed alongside more than 800 of my fellow legal academics, practicing lawyers and retired judges: www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

China's high speed train from Beijing to Shanghai is a journey of over 800 miles, 200 miles further than from Land's End to John o'Groats. It covers that vast distance in a little over 4 hours. It was built in 3 years, between April 2008 and June 2011. Puts HS2 into context, don't you think?

The central assumption of Brexiters was "the EU is a threat to free trade; our future lies with the free-trading USA". And then Trump came along - twice. What a spectacular failure of judgement.

Brexit ideology was shaped in the 1990s, when great power conflict was largely over, European security was no longer at issue & the US underpinned a global free-trading system. It was applied in a world more like the '70s, defined by great power conflict, resurgent protectionism & an unreliable US.

Charlotte Church sang From the River to the Sea at a fundraising event for Palestinians and now all the usual people are screaming antisemitism and trying to cancel her. RT if you stand with Charlotte Church and Palestine.

The Telegraph has disappeared this from their website, possibly out of mortal shame. You know what to do... (Link is to archive copy. The internet never forgets.) archive.is/2025.05.25-1...

Well, now I really want to do this. Love travel by train – I choose it over flying wherever I can.

"Angela Rayner talked about a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. I describe it as a genocide. And when we have a government, that are ultimately complicit, in fact, actively participating by arming them" Well said Zack Polanski.

BALTIC STATES EXPRESS! I’ve been asked to say a few words at the @RailBaltica Conference in Tallinn on Thursday. Say no more! Setting off on a 1,930 mile train journey from London to Warsaw, Vilnius, Riga & Tallinn (you didn’t think I’d fly, did you? 😉) #BalticStatesExpress

An actual tragedy is playing out in real time on the pages of the Telegraph. If you are the praying kind then please pray for them.

Zack Polanski, "We need to tax wealth, not work" Jane Moore, "Won't rich people leave?" Zack Polanski, "That's a myth" Laura Kuenssberg, "There is evidence that many wealthy people have left" Zack Polanski, "I'd refute that evidence"

It's one step away from "we had to let the second chauffeur go"

Bike lanes. HS2.

How does it feel to be living under what is likely to be the last ever Labour government? (If through their terrible policy choices and abysmal comms, they open the door to an outright Reform victory in 2029, there's no walking away from that level of failure. Think LibDems and tuition fees x100!)

The IEA, the dark money pressure group that inspired Truss’ mini budget, is (finally) under investigation by the Charity Commission

Oh.

Brexit ... 1/ Resurrect highest of trade borders 2/ Build needed facilities (away from ports with no space😅) 3/ Slowly realise not enough qualified border staff. (unilaterally favouring the EU, with open door to smugglers) 4/ Admit defeat. Accept EU oversight (but now without representation)

People often ask me 'Can the UK rejoin the EU while shackled by 86 deregulated Free Zones? No, it can't, the UK would have to realign its free zones with the EU Parliament's regulations, which prohibit the use of State aid for profit motives, why? 1/3 www.europarl.europa.eu/thinktank/en...

Every day, @mrjamesob.bsky.social does politics. Bit this is not the greatest threat to our lives. Global warming means the ice caps are already gone. Idiots still deny this is happening. We are a species of apes denying reality. Putin,Trump et al? They're ally don't matter.

Into this new Gen Z phrase "act your pay". Admittedly, as I am paid just £5k per year to be a City Councillor and £13k per year to be a County Councillor, if I did this myself I'd never get anything done. But I like the concept.

So, the #BBC protected: - Jimmy Saville - Gary Glitter - Rolf Harries - Nigel Farage - Huw Edwards - etc But get rid of Gary Lineker !?!?!

I've tabled two crucial amendments to the Planning & Infrastructure Bill: enforcing an “overall improvement test" or — if govt keep weakening nature protection — striking out Part 3 so they have to rewrite it. Report Stage is in June; the govt must fix the issues with this Bill before then.

Even more terrifying than the numbers - the likelihood that Labour will conclude that they need to push even harder to the right instead of setting out why the cult of Farage is wrong, dishonest and corrupt.

Keir Starmer is telling us all today there can be no free movement with EU countries. This is a betrayal of everything he once stood for - and a shocking reversal of the promises he made when he ran for the Labour leadership. We need immigration - as I told LBC.
