Hard not to wonder what Bloomberg's CYA legal team expects to go wrong with the hidden data collection its website is doing on readers who don't know what the risks are

Anyway: Milk was explicitly murdered in an anti-gay hate crime. Understand why naming that ship meant something. You may not intend it, but it's like saying Matthew Shepard was killed over a political dispute. Refs: Season Of The Witch (book), A Fish Has No Word For Water (book), more, etc.

When sentencing was announced a peaceful protest and vigil (at what would later become Harvey Milk Plaza) became the White Night Riots. Police cars were flipped, set on fire, and full-scale riots hammered the city. SFPD retaliated the next night by smashing up the Castro and beating its residents.

White was treated like royalty in jail; he was delivered homemade meals and take-out food personally by SFPD officers. White got a famously, unbelievably light sentence. (The "Twinkie defense")

After all that, White sat on Milk as he died and methodically shot him in the head. When news of the killings reached the Hall of Justice on Bryant Street, cheering to match a football gameβs winning touchdown could be heard outside and the the cops sang Danny Boy on the police radio all that night.

White shot the mayor twice in his office, then left to find Milk in his office nearby. White unleashed a tirade of verbal abuse, shot Milk in the stomach, his chest, in his back as he spun around, and again into his head as he went down.

With all due respect, former SFPD officer Dan White did not kill Moscone and Milk over a "long-running political dispute." White and the SFPD openly hated both men for supporting gay rights, especially targeting Milk for harassment. (History researcher here; SF is my hometown)

Apologies for no personal closing note in Threat Model today (in 2 hours). Look for my cyber sarcasm-lulz in the snarky commentary throughout.
