well, right now in buffalo, most of the heat waves don't get us nearly as hot as anywhere closer to the coast so we haven't really prioritized getting equipment. i can do a pretty good job of home temperature control with careful monitoring of the forecast -- but we'd still need a really long cord

we'll get a heat pump installed once it's really closer to the limit of our tolerance -- but most of the solutions are not clearly good ones -- and retrofitting is not trivial
