Incredible research on MAHA illuminating who RFK Jr. hires here: A man who spent years promoting the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and the kind of rabid antisemitism you only see in places (literally) one step from Stormfront.

Self-described environmentalist, Dallas-based hedge-fund manager Kyle Bass, is looking to take over 46,000 acre-feet (15 billion gallons) of water per year out of the Carrizo-Wilcox in East Texas www.ketk.com/news/local-n...

People who follow Tesla closely probably know about the high profile crashes involving Tesla owners Josh Brown and Walter Huang. You should also know about Johna Story, the pedestrian fatally struck in Arizona in 2023. She was 71. www.bloomberg.com/features/202...

I have long thought forest carbon offsets were just an incursion of Silicon Valley’s magical thinking in the forestry space, and I was right. This brief in Forest Ecology and Management does a great job at breaking it down. Short 🌲🧵—

This a question for all the non agricultural people on here. Should farmers working in the regenerative/sustainable/conservation systems continue to do so if society doesn't value it? At this point it's a net zero increase to profits at best with added risks. Conventional farming systems are easier.

Another casualty of DOGE -- the world's threatened wildlife. How many species will go extinct due to new funding cuts? The impacts will not be insignificant.

A great thread on the national treasure that is Forest Service research.

Adam Greenfield has an interesting post & discussion asking about "value – what it is, how it’s formed, how we account for it" - social.coop/@adamgreenfi... -> www.patreon.com/posts/129252... . (yearning to read more deeply, reminds me of a Value & Values convo on Earth Regenerators back in 2021)

The @wclivestream.bsky.social is going strong and almost to hour 80! I tuned in to find @lnzhang-climate.bsky.social hosting a solid set of talks about carbon cycling including from @biometlab.bsky.social and Gretchen Keppel-Aleks! Watch here: wclivestream.com

Keynote tomorrow, "From Turing to Thiel: AI and the 'Noble Lie'“ at Oise. It concludes with a quote from Brooks on the role of the literary humanities "to provide public tools of resistance to bogus and totalizing world explanations." All the papers look interesting--info below.

I find myself fairly critical of AI, but something interesting happening on Ecohana next week is the book club is alternating weeks of reading from "AI for Humanity" and "Thinking Like a Mountain" - starting June 2nd with the Aldo Leopold essay "Thinking like a Mountain" ecohana.mn.co/posts/85026378

Including land and forest carbon sequestration together with fossil fuels and other emissions in national climate targets will likely allow for greater emissions of fossil fuel carbon, and put the 1.5°C limit further at risk.

I've added another story to the growing collection at Planet Ficus - this one is about a brilliant form of bioengineering developing hundreds of years ago. open.substack.com/pub/planetfi... Subscribe to Planet Ficus for more astounding stories about fig trees, the rock stars of the plant world.

Something thats interesting to observe is that these critiques felt like they were only happening in green party/deep ecology spaces back in 2020/2021 when the Biden-flavored Green New Deal discourse was happening. Open to feedback, maybe I missed other thoughts then.

The focus on young men overlooks what's going with 45-64 year olds, a group that is about to start receiving social security checks.
