If billions of federal dollars are directed to more O&G expansion and pipelines or things like coal production then I think I’ll just throw in the towel.

This was an excellent post. I’m a layperson but I suppose this comes down to which projects are chosen and how responsibly they will be undertaken. Hydro lines generally carry less environmental risk than a pipeline so a lot of risk is in the choice of project itself. Is it 5 projects or 40?

He has never said O&G. What this really means, is it gives Smith until the fall to change her narrative and hope the rest of Canada forgets she is nutcase seditionist-because the way we are getting Alberta iff pipelines is with $ for mega projects and military bases. She is so full of shit

Part of me thinks we should take them and trump in the middle of the night pump them full of acid strip them naked and leave in the centre of Banff national park. A good Canadian welcome

Trumps eyes are on Canada because he figured out he got waxed on CUSMA. I am 💯 confident he will get waxed again. He is the most unpopular president in 100 years, let’s just relax and see how things play out.

First. The US ostensibly has a right of first refusal on almost everything we sell. 2nd. Congress ratifies trade deals not the president and I have not heard of a single trump trade “deal” go before congress. So like all of trumps “deals” it’s will be all show and no go.

East west energy grid here we come

We’ve entered an alternate universe, or a psychologically dissociated state, I can’t tell which.

Are they jumping ship or heading over to sabotage from the inside out?
comment in response to
post
Sure. Of course we need to be concerned but the truth is we are in crisis and we have simply become a country like the US, where nothing moves forward. Eg. An east west grid is never going to happen unless someone owns it. it’s obviously 5 year time limit to get CPC support.

Yeah. I know I’m dreaming, he will say something and nothing will happen. Good thing I’m not PM I guess, I’d bury him in the front lawn of the Legislature.

This story plays really well internationally. Almost as good as ICE ICE baby.

💯 a lot of that going backwards stuff happening, it doesn’t help America is going full on 1938

I don’t understand the Saudis coming to the G7 except to underscore to smiths people there isn’t private $ for pipelines. That’s the insane part, even the gulf states are investing massively in alternative energy. It’s like Alberta is stuck in 1980

I’m thinking there is a political bait and switch going on. All but 2 premieres are aligning around projects so there is strength to stand up to oil. In the end AB and SASK will need to be paid off. New data centres? Military bases? etc. my hope is there is no private $ for pipelines

Cool. Let’s build high speed rail then so we can go on eco tours, camping and see seas and stuff

Even the head of OPEC, who’s comments in this article sound like the Tobacco industry telling people cigarettes aren’t dangerous, says investment is falling. OPEC claims peak oil is 2050? No ONE believes OPEC. A pipeline has a 30 year payback it takes 10 years to be operational. No way.

$ follow the money. There is NO private money for pipelines. Danelle Smith hosted gulf states and went on a world tour and she hasn’t made ANY comments that “money is lined up” for pipelines. If Carney says the Feds are spending 5billion on pipelines I will rip him, until then $ I’m waiting.
comment in response to

BC isn’t going to allow that crude pipeline. They assume all the risk with little payoff.
comment in response to

BTW Web Kinew and the indigenous groups want that pipeline for the $, So let’s not put it on Carney.
comment in response to

That’s an opinion piece which is essentially advocacy for indigenous consultation quoting some professor. Danielle Smith is a nutcase fundamentalist, having a public war with her is stupid. Until Carney announces billions for pipelines I will defend him. He was totally against kinder Morgan.

I agree, he is climate guy. I think he is ruthlessly practical, is telling the Alberta fundamentalists what they need to hear, is creating an east west power grid and the national projects will isolate Alberta. There is NOTHING he has said publicly that’s says he wants pipelines. Give him a chance

I don’t know when we starting thinking we can’t do things. Have you seen an office tower built? And that’s with one shift. we built Lancaster bombers in one year from scratch and 9500 in 4 years and that was in the 40’s. We can build things it’s pretty much all we are really good at.

Best to learn to recognize sarcasm before spouting nonsense. I am ok with wealth caps, full transparent accounting, profit caps, levels for reinvestments, environmental standards, set wage levels, unionization etc for all government contracts. No one asked me for solutions nor did they offer any.

That’s why DS is making more and outlandish claims. If she had private $ for pipelines she would be saying that in the press, like the NS guy says he has for wind. We are going to be selling oil for 2 to 3 years at the same pace so reduce what we co2 we can, but the market will kill oil. Faith
comment in response to

All I’ve read about Carney is he is a total believer in the carbon bubble. It’s not “growing up” that’s the problem, the O&G people in Alberta are fundamentalists and brainwashed. There isn’t private $ for pipelines, Carney saying what he has too. He isolating Alberta by uniting other premiers

We build out our already strong cyber and surveillance capabilities at HOME-under the guise of the GD with Lockheed Martin, then we can build fighters at home from another supplier with loans from the EU security fund.
comment in response to

I’m letting Carney play this out. Lockheed Martin is the Golden Dome same as the F35 which is a pipe dream. We switch our investment to Cyber and AI that may or may not be a golden down. That’s why Carneys been saying AI and opened the door to the GD. We appease trump, get out of the fighters and

It’s anecdotal but I’ve been to the US 90 to 110 times and visited every state. My total US time spent is probably a year. I can’t count the acts of random violence Ive witnessed. I’ve spent 5 times as much time in central & south America and I’ve seen ZERO. That’s BEFORE all this trump insanity
comment in response to

No one wants to put the boots to America more than me but the way our grid is currently organized this would totally fuck us up. It would also probably kill some innocent people in blue states. What we should do is put a 50% export duty on all energy. They’d probably invade us but I’m game.

I know. A lot of that “skirting” going on from the alt right in this country in every area.

I agree the Feds need to step in with mandates, especially in Alberta, but seriously it’s a provincial issue and people need to chirp at the Ford government.
