The situation in Toretsk is more clarified since the last post on the city. Though widely contested, Russian forces retained a presence in areas throughout the city. These have since come back into their control, and some forces have now moved northwest of the city.

Russia crossed the Oskil again, this time at Kamianka. They now control or contest seven settlements on the west side of the Oskil.

In Belgorod, Russian counterattacks have pushed Popovka and Demidovka back to contested settlements.

Southwest of Pokrovsk, Russia has attacked towards, and come within 3km of, the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast boundary.

Russia has taken positions along both sides of the Sumy / Kursk border, capturing the settlements of Veselivka and Basivka and reaching Loknia.

In Zaporizhzhia, Russia has taken the settlement of Lobkove after the recent capture of Stepove and Mali Shcherbaky. A Ukrainian counterattack into Shcherbaky has prevented its capture so far.

Russia retook control of the remaining 358km² of Kursk, while Ukraine has captured 11.88km² of Belgorod. This results in a total combined net Russian gain for the month of 618.84km², the third highest in the past year. This chart shows monthly net changes in control over the past year.

Ukraine have retaken further positions southwest of the city of Toretsk, contesting Nelipivka. Meanwhile, Russia has secured positions to the east within Druzhba, and along the canal to Chasiv Yar.

In Kursk, Russia continues to secure areas of the grey zone after the recent withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the area. They have crossed the border into Zhuravka and have taken positions in Basivka.

A minor Ukrainian counterattack in Kursk meant that the area of Russia occupied by Ukraine expanded by 4.8km². This results in a total net Russian gain across all fronts in the month of 246km². (Note this chart is up to the end of February before the Russian Kursk offensive)

The situation in Toretsk remains complex. It has become clear that Russian control in the city is less robust than previously assessed. Much of the city is now considered contested. Ukraine has been able to reclaim control in the south.

Near Chasiv Yar, Russian forces have continued their advances, consolidating positions along the canal southeast of the town.

After a largely unchanging for some time there has been movement on the Zaporizhzhia frontline. Russian troops have made progress, retaking positions south of Piatykhatky and entering Mali Shcherbaky.

In the Velyka Novosilka area, Russian forces have continued their advance north and west, capturing Dniproenerhiia, Skudne, Burlatsk, and Novosilka, while entering Pryvline.

High cost no doubt however determining sustainability is difficult. The cost is high for Ukraine too and not being replaced quickly enough, so Russia's capacity to attack reduces but at the same time the strength needed for each attack also reduces.

As tough as it is for them to achieve Russia is still advancing every week. Ukrainian advances are happening but on a smaller scale. A pause in fighting now provides more respite to Ukrainian forces than Russian.

South of Bilohorivka, Russia has further expanded control and increased the pressure on remaining Ukrainian forces in and around the settlement.

Russia has advanced south of Makiivka. They have also advanced south and east of the settlement of Terny and entered Yampolivka.

North of Chasiv Yar, Russia has captured the settlement of Hryhorivka.

South of Pokrovsk, Russia expanded control within Andriivka and closed the salient south of the settlement when they reached Kostiantynopil and took control of Ulakly.

Russia has advanced back into Pishchane southwest of Pokrovsk, while Ukraine has recontested Dachenske.

Russia has also continued advances around Velyka Novosilka, most notably they have crossed the river into the settlement of Novoocheretuvate, north of a Ukrainian set of fortified positions. Russia has also advanced further to the west where they have reached Novosilka.

In Kharkiv, new Russian positions have been confirmed on the west bank of the Oskil, this time further north, near the settlement of Topoli, right on the border.
