I’ve an award winning podcast about all that’s weird and a little off kilter in the town of Biggleswade and Bedfordshire. History with a pinch of the paranormal, folklore & urban legends. I also like cake, cats, beating bosses and disability rights.

Continuing my theme of everyday wild flowers. As we approach June it's poppy season. A flower steeped in folklore being symbols of sleep, war, remembrance, and love. Photos all from Biggleswade at different times. @Icysedgwick has a great poppy post here: www.icysedgwick.com/poppy-folklo...

Good news about the Harris Hawk that had been causing trouble in Hertfordshire. He has found his forever home.

Exciting tunnel news from London! A new spy museum and bar. Personally I think they should keep the 1980s bar! www.theguardian.com/culture/2025...

30 The Secret’s of Royston Cave Beneath the pretty market town of Royston in Hertfordshire, lies a cave that was carved out of the chalk by hand, in the distant past. After being dramatically rediscovered in the mid 18th century, Royston cave has spawned competing theories about its use and…

Don't forget that tomorrow there's a new episode of Weird in the Wade all about The Secrets of Royston Cave. This is the rather unassuming entrance into the cave just off one of Royston's main roads.

In ancient tales, thunderstorms were seen as moments when the world blurred. Scholar Duan Shuo, known for slicing fish so finely it was like art, once cut during a storm. With a crack of thunder, the slices turned into butterflies and flew off. 1/2 #folklore

I’m so excited to see an article about Weird in the Wade in the fabulous “We Belong Dead” classic age of horror magazine. It was great chatting to Ian Talbot Taylor for it. Horror fans can get a copy here:

Royston Cave, the subject of Monday's new episode, is just chock full of carvings both medieval and more modern. This is a medieval carving of St Christopher carrying Christ on this shoulder. And the legend of St Christopher can be read here: www.belmontabbey.org.uk/the-true-sto...

Bumped into Emma from the Bell Witch Podcast today at the Podcast Show!!

Such a great start to the day! ❤️

As I’m in north London for the Podcast Show I took an excursion to see this stone cat which is placed where Dick Whittington is supposed to have heard the Bow Bells prophesying he would be Mayor of London 3 times, and so he turned back.

I woke at 3:00am and couldn’t get back to sleep. So I researched corpse roads for half an hour. Then wondered why I had nightmares when I fell back asleep.

Continuing my exploration of “weeds” and wild plants I pass on the street. This is I think purple toadflax, growing on the edge of a car park. Steeped in lore, in Scotland toadflax was thought to protect you from spells, and in Greek myth it was linked to the underworld.

I’ve completed next Monday’s episode and I’m now on my way to London, ready for The Podcast Show tomorrow!

Next Monday’s episode is about the mysterious Royston Cave. Here I am before recording at the cave last month with some of my kit. Don’t forget to follow or subscribe to weird in the wade wherever you listen.

Friend of the show and guest on weird in the wade, Amy has such a brilliant website. Do check out her revamped witches of Shropshire page.

📣 NEW POST 📣 I have completely rewritten my witchcraft article to reflect new research. Read all about Shropshire's complex relationship with witchcraft and some notable Shropshire witches below. nearlyknowledgeablehistory.blogspot.com/2024/01/witc... #Folklore #Shropshire #Witches #History

Did you know #UncannyCommunity that I held a ghost hunt at the old haunted poundstretcher in Biggleswade last month? Yes that one, that was mentioned at the first Uncanny Con! The ghost hunt is on the latest episode of Weird in the Wade. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Any fellow podcasters going to the podcast show next week in London?
