Jeeze, that's ridiculous! This is one of the reasons I rip all my tapes! I haven't gotten around to scanning the box and the tape or ripping my other Tranzor shit but for now: archive.org/details/tran...

SCOPE CREEP IS MURDER

Well, I guess you should also know that Evil Michelle Yeoh is the mirror universe fascist emperor version of Michael's mentor Philippa Georgiou. That's mainly it. You can seriously pick up the rest as you go.

Rather than telling people to watch 1 terrible season and 1 really uneven season, just start Discovery with season 3. You'll catch up along the way. All you really need to know is Michael Burnham is Spock's previously unmentioned adopted human sister and Discovery has magic mushroom teleport drive.

It's still weird how Discovery started off SO BAD and slowly got better and better. I mean, I know Next Gen also started kind of rough but not in the same way. I don't blame anyone for not sticking with Discovery, but...

The best part of season 3 was Evil Michelle Yeoh. Good Michelle Yeoh was fine, but Evil Michelle Yeoh is great. I was sad to see her leave and I guess people didn't like Evil Michelle Yeoh's spinoff movie but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. STILL. Michelle Yeoh rules.

Reno is also a great character. It's funny how the engineering people are mostly my favs while the bridge crew I'm pretty meh on outside of Michael who I like a lot when she's not being written as the Most Important Person Alive. Her relationship with Book is really fascinating. I also love Saru!!!!

ALSO re: Discovery, Adira is NB and has a slug in their belly and I like them a lot. Adira is a good kid. Really nice having a nb character in a TV show is not like a monster or some weird shit. I really like Adira and their two dads, Stamets and Culber, I really like Book, I really like Tilly

(Season 3 of Strange New Worlds is supposed to start next month, I'm just really champing at the bit).

I'm sure I'll enjoy the last season, nonetheless. Strange New Worlds is still my favorite neo-Star Trek (my favorite Star Trek since the '90s by far) and I know it's also going to end at season 5 (as did Lower Decks) but we still haven't even gotten season 3 of Strange New Worlds!!! LET ME WATCH IT

Season 4 is really good Star Trek, no caveats. It finally started feeling like an ensemble show as it always shoulda been. They finally just made Michael Burnham the captain like they clearly always wanted to, and everything snapped into place. Really loving this show now, but it's already canceled.

Season 3 when they traveled 900+ years into the future really seemed to help a lot. Improved quite a bit, but still had a pretty bad case of "Michael is the most perfect special person in the universe and all plots will warp around her no matter how little sense it makes".

no, but that would be interesting! i have some other bootleg dvds (some vcds) with english subs kicking around still, hell teacher nube, for example, plus some japanese and hk horror and sci-fi movies too outside of anime

bc there are Japanese VHS releases (and LDs) on Toei (Home) Video with the same shitty English dubs. Still, $5 isn't THAT much of a difference but it still counted a lot on $2 a week allowance when I was 11 or whatever

srsly though, robotech was FHE, Clash was Celebrity's Just For Kids! Both FHE and Celebrity were founded by Noel Bloom Sr. and you can see Celebrity was definitely the "shit out cheap stuff as fast as possible" brand but I think Toei commissioned the dubs themselves then offered them overseas.

look the awful awful dubs (which based on my research are largely done Frontier Enterprises in Tokyo and Axis International and/or Omni Productions in Hong Kong (they might be the same studio; they definitely share actors) made it cheaper lol!

yeah @getterdrill.bsky.social is doing good work on bootleg sub preservation... i sent the macross 7 bootleg over for that purpose. i got rid of the orguss bootleg when i got the official imaginasian release, so i don't have that one anymore but i'm p sure i have macross zero still
comment in response to post
robotech v1 was $20 but clash of the bionoids (on an ep tape!) was a steal at $15. in 1992 or 1993 money so what's that with inflation? $33.37 in 2025 moneys? lolz

that is no fucking joke!

timmy = mu so literally every time the japanese said mu, the subs said timmy! it was amazing! the next best terrible sub thing was hk bootleg macross zero which rendered focker as fuxotuka! i'll my ol' sempai, fuxotuka! what a man

i bought us orguss on vhs at SUN. COAST. MOTION. PICTURE. COMPANY! i didn't see the whole show until like 2001 when i found an hk bootleg dvd with semi-terrible englush subtitles in chinatown. my fav part? the robots from mu are for some reason translated as THE EVIL ROBOTS FROM TIMMY. TIMMY.
