What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits: 8.5/10 My favourite Doobie Brothers album that I’ve heard thus far, packed with great uptempo rock jams & most of the mellow, downtempo tracks are pretty great too! This album also has my 2 fav Doobies songs: “Black Water” & “Another Park, Another Sunday”.

The Captain and Me: 8/10 A consistently good album from front to back even if, for me, it doesn’t have as many moments of greatness as Toulouse Street. “China Grove” is an all-time classic tho & “Dark-Eyed Cajun Woman” is very underrated, great use of strings on that song!

Toulouse Street: 8/10 The Doobies’ breakthrough and I can hear why. It feels a bit more… fleshed out than their first album, adding blues, R&B & even gospel influences to their sound. Also, “Listen to the Music” is on the shortlist of my favourite Doobie Brothers songs (and of my fav hits of 1972)

I finally have every Doobie Brothers album from 1971 to 1991, so I'll be playing through their discography over the next week or so, starting with their self-titled debut album! The Doobie Brothers: 7/10

One of my favourite R&B singers, this song’s at least a 9/10 for me

Today’s vinyl challenge calls for a record that represents my taste in music and I think that “Radio City” by Big Star does it well, representing a few of my favourite genres. It’s a classic rock/power pop record on a subsidiary of Stax Records, a predominantly soul record label.

“Blue Jean” by David Bowie was a US #8 hit in 1984. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #EveryHitSongEver #davidbowie

Got a copy of The Cars’ 3rd album “Panorama” from Freecloud Records at a discount while I was journeying through downtown today!

…And all while wearing a dress!

Good thing about GTA VI being another year away, it gives me time to save up for a PS5! At the same time, HOLY SHIT I CANT WAIT TO PLAY IT!!!1!

A few great instrumental soul/funk/jazz records from @coleminerecords.bsky.social to close out my weekend with. That SFSE album is still one of my favourites of the year btw

today’s vinyl challenge called for something with poetic lyrics or speak-sing vocals so I’m playing the only Nick Cave album I have

the new album from M Ross Perkins, “What’s the Matter, M Ross?”, officially drops in just under and hour and I managed to get my copy early today! If you’re into ‘60s psychedelic pop or power pop, I really recommend giving this album a listen! @mrossperkins.bsky.social @coleminerecords.bsky.social

It’s probably because I wasn’t around when the lip syncing scandal broke but I never had a problem with Milli Vanilli. I like their brand of pop music & “Blame It on the Rain” is my favourite of theirs.

Settling down with some 🍩 & good soul music tonight as the election results roll in.

“Black Water” by the Doobie Brothers was a US #1 hit in 1975. #EveryHitSongEver #doobiebrothers #rockhall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

It won’t be long, yeah (yeah), ‘til I’m finally done with the 1001 Albums Generator. That’s a lie actually, it will be very long. I’ve missed a lot of albums…

playing the deluxe “Under Pressure” 💿 from Logic, one of the very few artists I discovered through YouTube (outside of the music reviewers I watch). I saw his name popping up online around the time he signed with Def Jam, found his mixtapes on YT (before I knew DatPiff existed) and became a fan.

Happy Earth Day for the next… 2 hours & 50 minutes or so. I’d’ve posted sooner but these lenticular covers are so hard to photograph. 🌎 🎸

“Black Betty” by Ram Jam was a US #18 hit in 1977. #EveryHitSongEver ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

“Bitter Sweet Symphony” by the Verve was a US #12 hit in 1998. #EveryHitSongEver #theverve ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Dunno if this is a good choice for a first David Lynch film, but I’m looking forward to it!

stellar editing job on this week's #AT40 show from SiriusXM, no notes.

“The Bitch Is Back” by Elton John was a US #4 hit in 1974. #EveryHitSongEver #eltonjohn #rockhall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

one of the few live jazz albums I have in my collection atm, Vol. 1 of Shelly Manne & His Men at the Black Hawk. It’s a great album and I can’t wait for the other 3 volumes to be reissued …at some point. Hopefully? @craftrecordings.bsky.social

You can take the girl out of Calgary but..

the 2015 remaster of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas!

“Biko” by Peter Gabriel was a UK #38 hit in 1980. #EveryHitSongEver #petergabriel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not the rare wax mage variant but I’m happy I got a copy of @coleminerecords.bsky.social Soul Slabs, Vol. 4! I’m enjoying hearing the 45s from this collection that they haven’t put out yet, I’m especially looking forward to the ones from Doctor Bionic, Oliver James & Orgōne.

A great #RecordStoreDay for me overall! I got both of the albums I wanted along with a few extras… @coleminerecords.bsky.social @toddrundgren.bsky.social @penroserecords.bsky.social

All the way in the back of the line bcuz of course I am 😆 #recordstoreday

My playlist for today. It’s been years since I’ve played that Handsome Boy Modeling School album so it was good to spin that one again and the first volume of Soul Slabs is to hype myself up for RSD tomorrow!

I went to the mall to get a haircut today and saw that voting for the Canadian federal election was open so I did it! I didn’t get a sticker or anything tho

my dad @daring63.bsky.social copped this Cars album at Freecloud Records about a month ago and I'm just getting around to playing it (thanks in part to a vinyl challenge prompt about RRHoF inductees).

one of the three Green Day albums I have, along with Dookie and American Idiot. I've thought of getting 21st Century Breakdown at some point too.

for today’s vinyl challenge, a 45 or a record that plays at 45rpm. I could’ve just played one of the many singles I own, but I felt it was fitting to put on Nirvana’s greatest hits album today.

Right before work today, I managed to snag one of the 3 red copies of the Tracy Chapman reissue that Listen Records had in stock!

I finally copped MAYHEM today!

currently playing Durand Jones & The Indications’ debut through headphones which is why I photographed it like this (the cord was in the way of where I usually put the sleeve) I’m back to participating in vinyl challenges for the first time in a couple months bcuz I haven’t played much lately.
