It was an easy assumption, “squabble up” & “luther” were the two pop-friendly songs on the album, but I’m proud of myself for calling it 😆

“Rockin’ Down the Highway” (the hit that never was) & “Jesus Is Just Alright” are classics too and “White Sun” is an underrated gem, the harmonies on that song are on point.

This album is rather unremarkable & inessential compared to their later works, but still an enjoyable listen. If you're into low-key country rock, I recommend giving it a listen. favs: "Feelin' Down Farther", "Greenwood Creek", "The Master" worst: "Growin' a Little Each Day"

this Mavis Staples record has the 2nd best version of “Son of a Preacher Man” I’ve heard (after Dusty’s). The Otis Redding covers are great too!

I started to cool on him not long after The Incredible True Story and jumped off the hype train completely when the Suicide Hotline song came out. Under Pressure is still really good tho! It’s been years since I’ve played it in full, I forgot how good it is.

Every single from Rhythm Nation is at least a 9/10 in my opinion. My favourite album era in pop music history, or at least top 3!

I heard “Headlines” on my local iHeart pop station twice last week (Edmonton)

Really good film, action packed, weird as fuck and even funny in parts. Essential viewing if you want to see Nicolas Cage sing “Love Me Tender”.
