I did my 15th #20postchallenge of #20challengechallenge on the nature of wisdom. bsky.app/profile/will...

2️⃣0️⃣ The real event isn’t the pointing.
It’s the gaze…
Rising at last…
Toward the sky.
Toward understanding.
Toward all that waits beneath and beyond it.
🌙

1️⃣9️⃣ Because wisdom isn’t something that gets transferred.
It’s what emerges.
Always at the right time.
Never under force.
And the same is true for civilization.

1️⃣8️⃣ The next phase won’t come from passivity or despair.
It comes from choosing to build.
Choosing to invest.
Choosing to expand possibility space
for everyone.

1️⃣7️⃣ We didn’t get here easily.
We’re the result of improbable alignments
and adaptive responses
stacked over billions of years.
And now…
We are equipping ourselves
to manage the responsibility for what comes next.

1️⃣6️⃣ Our job isn’t to force realization.
Or impose awareness from outside.
Our job is to prepare for the clearing sky.
To build the conditions.
To keep pointing.
So that when the moment arrives…
Someone else can also look up.

1️⃣5️⃣ If poverty blocks the sky…
If bad law clouds the horizon…
If despair dulls motivation…
Then fewer look up.
Fewer discover the moon.
Slower solving of the great challenges.
Agency shrinks when survival is in question.

1️⃣4️⃣ This is why I write about:
✅ Stabilizing finances ✅ UBI ✅ Ending taxation ✅ Nomodynamy ✅ Economic inclusion ✅ Instrumental convergence ✅ The subspecies we’re becoming
It’s for life itself to continue to expand.
#UBI #Nomodynamy #ObjectiveCompassion #Extropian #HomoSapiensLongevus
comment in response to post
1️⃣3️⃣ And now…
The next condition is ours to create.
Our failure here wouldn’t just be local or political.
It could be cosmic.
We may be life’s only chance
to become permanent.
#Extropian #InstrumentalConvergence #AnthropicPrinciple #ObjectiveCompassion #Emergence

1️⃣2️⃣ The deeper lesson:
Existence itself required the right conditions…
At the right time…
In just the right sequence.
Just like wisdom.
Discovery happens when constraints and opportunity align.

1️⃣1️⃣ That single event reshaped our world:
✅ Stripped away our primitive atmosphere
✅ Increased Earth’s density
✅ Strengthened our magnetic field
✅ Helped us retain both water and air
Without the moon, life—
much less complex life—never begins.
#AnthropicPrinciple #Emergence #Existence #Extropian
comment in response to post
🔟 4.5 billion years ago…
A Mars-sized protoplanet—Theia—struck the early Earth.
From that impact:
✅ Our moon was born
✅ Our planet’s density increased
✅ Our atmosphere changed
✅ Our magnetic field strengthened
Conditions shifted—
And life became possible.
#AnthropicPrinciple #Extropian #Evolution
comment in response to post
9️⃣ And the moon itself?
It’s not just metaphor.
It’s the literal reason we’re here.
The result of an apparently highly improbable event—
A collision that changed everything.
#AnthropicPrinciple #Extropian #Existence #Evolution #Emergence
comment in response to post
8️⃣ And here’s the deeper truth:
Without motivation…
No one looks up.
No amount of pointing
Can force someone’s gaze skyward.
Agency begins with desire.
And desire awakens when conditions allow.
#Concupiscere #ObjectiveCompassion #FreeWill #Growth #Agency
comment in response to post
7️⃣ Now…
I find myself more like the one being asked.
But I don’t expect to be sought.
And I don’t expect to be easily understood.
That’s not resignation.
It’s alignment with how discovery works.
The process belongs to the seeker.
Always.

6️⃣ For much of my life,
I was the seeker.
Eager.
Frustrated.
Wanting answers to arrive fully formed—
Packaged. Delivered. Solved.
But wisdom doesn’t work that way.
It waits.
And it makes you reach.
#PersonalGrowth #FreeWill #Learning #ObjectiveCompassion
comment in response to post
5️⃣ And when the discovery finally happens…
It’s never really about the pointing.
It’s about the gaze—
Rising at last—
Toward the sky.
Toward possibility.
Toward understanding.
That moment belongs entirely to the seeker.
And it changes everything after.
#FreeWill #Growth #Concupiscere #Emergence
comment in response to post
4️⃣ “Before I can teach you about the moon,
I must first teach you how to recognize pointing.”
And even after that…
✅ The sky must clear
✅ The timing must align
✅ The right phase must appear
Wisdom is discovery.
Not delivery.
#ObjectiveCompassion #Growth #Learning #Philosophy #Emergence

3️⃣
“Trying to explain wisdom to someone unready
is like trying to explain the moon.
I can point…
But unless you know how to follow the gesture,
you might mistake my finger for the moon itself.”
The gap isn’t knowledge.
It’s readiness.

2️⃣ A seeker once approached a known wise person and asked:
“Teach me wisdom.”
The answer was gentle but unyielding:
“Wisdom cannot be taught. Only discovered.”
Because real wisdom isn’t something we’re handed…
It’s something we uncover—
When we’re ready.

On Pointing at the Moon: Wisdom, Existence, and Our Shared Horizon
1️⃣ Some lessons can’t be given.
They can only be found.
This is about why wisdom needs both conditions and desire—
And why our ability to thrive, grow, and shape the future depends on the same.

But I want to get back to my 20-post explainer challenge.
This will be my 15th series in my effort to reach 20 series of 20 posts.
This one’s a little different.
It’s an explainer… on wisdom itself.

We have had a UBI like this operating effectively since 1982. It’s in Alaska and called the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend. We should do what Alaska does nationally. bsky.app/profile/will...

I understand that you’re just spitballing with this, but I would like to counter that when a necessary evil like taxation stops being necessary, it then is just evil. Basic corporate finance applied to government permits sound finances, UBI, and an end to taxes. bsky.app/profile/will... #UBI

… no poverty regardless of employment. There doesn’t need to be minimum wage jobs, because one’s starting income can come from investment. That would be best for all. bsky.app/profile/will...
comment in response to post
I am fully in favor of ending poverty. I disagree that playing around with the minimum wage is the way to do that. The sure way to end poverty is a UBI. I admit spinning one up that is fully capable of doing that would likely take a generation, but then…

I am fully in favor of a UBI, but we need to be honest about the numbers. I spent more than three years writing an academic paper on it. To pay a UBI capable of ending poverty ($13,590 a year) will take 4.63 trillion each year. Taxes can’t do that much. Do without it. #APFD bsky.app/profile/will...

I thoroughly agree and Alaska shows us how we can do it with no additional taxation and eventually eliminating taxes to boot. bsky.app/profile/will...

Such minds can help establish a UBI if we allow them to. #UBI bsky.app/profile/will...

The Federal Reserve is entirely funded by its own operations and does not receive a dime from taxation. It is fully motivated to manage its money well. By definition, it is not then excessive. It is the result of some of the best money minds in the country building positive work conditions.

It traces economic value from the concupiscere drive through subjective valuing to objectivization—and how sound gov finances can be facilitated by an arbitrage-financed fund which will pay a UBI dividend and replace taxation. #writersky #UBI #econsky #academicpublishing #philosophy #submissionday

While addressing the metaphysics directly, I also demonstrated the math. The paper is currently being prepared for submission to The Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics. If accepted, I will be able to go ahead and share the preprint. For now, I can share this graphical abstract of it.

Jean Calvin’s 500 year old predestination based Protestant Work Ethic has been proven wrong by experimental economics time and again, but it has proven tenacious. Fortunately, Alaska has shown that we can establish the institutions for it appealing to superior financial math.
comment in response to post
Also, their cynicism is showing. There have been many of us studying this for years. There has been a UBI in Alaska since 1982. It is not necessary to speculate. We have plenty of science examining the matter. What anti-UBI claim will always happen, never has. Rents have not been increased.
comment in response to post
Jean Calvin was wrong life is not about work. Consumption and investment are real. The Protestant Work Ethic and its agency defeating mentality is the single ultimate idea excusing the preservation of poverty.
comment in response to post
This is the correct answer. Sure, we can adopt national construction regulations like Japan and enforced upfront pricing like Singapore, but turbocharging a national UBI like what is in Alaska would have the largest benefit. bsky.app/profile/will...
comment in response to post
Yes, that is the common hypothesis that is firmly and cynically believed against all evidence to the contrary. It has been widely implemented across the whole state of Alaska for 43 years & the prices have not been bid up at any rate greater than the national inflation rate. bsky.app/profile/will...
