The book is a suspenseful how-did-they-do-it mystery, from the first microscopes to transforming the entire living world as it mutates around and within us. Along the way we get a timely re-envisioning of science and its discontents.

Same, but for tariffs -- the absurdity and chaos of Trumpism made students genuinely interested in the basic principles of standard economics

PS, before "reciprocal" tariffs linked macro balances to bilateral trade, the traditional approach to macroeconomics for food policy is chapter 9 of the #FoodEconomics book. We'll need a second edition soon, right @afinaret.bsky.social?

Wow indeed. What strikes me first is the bigger D:R ratio and more liberal workers in more customer-facing businesses. I wonder if that holds for roles within companies?
Maybe having to meet individual peoples' needs is associated with being more liberal, due to both selection & treatment effects?

Stunned silence! Then students talked about social media, how hard it is to know what news is seen by other people.
Also discussed the econ concept of"rational inattention", whereby people tune out things for which their stakes are low...and whether the harms of tariffs are enough to break through.

Today, April 2, President Kumar at Tufts issued a University Declaration for Rümeysa Öztürk. "The University seeks relief so that Ms. Öztürk is released without delay so that she can return to complete her studies and finish her degree at Tufts University."
