The kneejerk reaction:

Yeah. Teachers I knew were a mixed bag on how they handled it. Some of my teachers did exactly that and even engaged in discourse on what we were reading to keep us engaged + encouraged poetry. Others just held class by reading the assigned pages with no discussion on what we read. Checklist item.

Congrats! Nice to see big things on your end, man! :)

For clarification, I was a teacher's assistant at one point in my life, and I've seen both types of teachers referenced between you and I. I do believe that the teachers now are absolutely put in a no-win situation, and that's a big part of what saddens me about our education system as a whole.

Firstly, I want to note that this is why I said "some teachers". Secondly, I'm also not absolving parenting on that front as I do agree that it also falls on the parents. The opening post was referring to the role of a teacher here, and I do think there are ways to expand on that to aid in that.

Just read all of this and glad you made it through that fine. That's terrifying on several levels.

So true. One of the failings I find some teachers have with regards to Literature is that they tend to give it as an assignment without first talking about how Literature is a gateway to other worlds and sort of "selling" a child's mind on the idea of reading to make them receptive.

I think this was announced some time ago? Might've been a Nintendo Direct, but I'm *really* excited for this. I loved Shredder's Revenge, and this looks amazing. ALSO SHE-HULK DID A LEG TOMAHAWK I BELIEVE IN KRAUSER SUPREMACY!!

"I...have to fight your 50 Evil Statesmen?" "50 Evil State Leaders, yes."

Can confirm this directly. The removal of lootboxes + the giant "All-in-One for Low Price" packaging of the Celebration Edition were what got me into the game, and it's genuinely a blast if you have people to play with. Takes a bit of adjustment, but it can be very fun to pick-up-and-play.

It's a matter of time before we all run out, When I thought he was mine, she caught him by the mouth!

Only thing I would wish as an addendum is it would've felt "better" if Cai Mao and Huang Zu were unique officers rather than generic as Wu's entire story revolves around a generic officer force (And Gan Ning), but that aside? A shockingly solid run that made me appreciate Wu that much more.
comment in response to post
Wu's story was a truly welcome surprise for me. I enjoyed it far more than I originally anticipated. Even in the build-up, I almost joined Wu on my initial run instead of Wei. Even with a rather glaring flaw based on precedent with Sun Quan, I was thoroughly pleased with Wu's path.

Lastly, the shift from new arrangements of "Capricious Wind" to "A Thousand Suns" after the fire attack succeeds was a stroke of genius. Absolutely triumphant use of that song following one of the game's strongest moments IMO.
comment in response to post
The game also grounding the "prayer for the wind" into more of a ruse rather than an actual, mystical conjuring of weather was a wonderful way to blend the reality of Chibi into the novelized folklore of the battle. Huang Gai's betrayal is handled supremely as well.
comment in response to post
This moment aside? The ending of Wu's story was incredibly well-done, especially with the faux tension built-up with Huang Gai. Done amazingly well for anyone who doesn't know the history or read the novel, and even as someone who does, seeing it play out was a highlight for sure.

Ling Cao's primary involvement only revolves around Ling Tong and trying to keep him in-line, so Ling Cao's death doesn't carry the weight it should on anyone but Ling Tong. If Ning had targeted almost anyone else, I genuinely think Quan would be singing a different tune, and that's the issue.
comment in response to post
The game tries to drive home the idea that the entirety of the Wu Army considers each other "family", but it fails in making Ling Cao feel as connected to the others, a difference between immediate family (Huang Gai) and the estranged fourth cousin twice removed (Ling Cao) seeming apparent.
comment in response to post
It's a very interesting way of painting the already-flawed Sun Quan in what could be argued as an even more flawed light, and it's the one true break in the "family" dynamic of the kingdom. One could also argue if Ning had taken out, say, Huang Gai or Zhou Yu or even Zhou Tai, would he want him?
comment in response to post
Instead, it looks like Quan is allowed to sate his need for vengeance while also telling his officer to suck it up because he needs Gan Ning in his army. Quan telling Tong the difference here (There was an advantage to taking out Zu, but there is none to refusing Ning's surrender) might've helped.
comment in response to post
It's an interesting conundrum that, admittedly, falls in line with both the historical records and the ROTK novel as I recall, but it does paint Quan as a hypocrite in this moment. If Quan had a moment of laying it out to Tong regarding the logical reason he took Xiakou, maybe?
comment in response to post
Ling Tong makes a valid argument here. Why is Sun Quan allowed his vengeance, yet he denies Tong his own? Huang Zu was at fault for the deaths of both Jian and Ce, and Quan admitted to have desired this vengeance "more than anyone", but Tong is outright denied his own by the one who got his.
comment in response to post
Sun Quan defeats Huang Zu and captures Gan Ning, and in that moment, Ling Tong refuses to accept his surrender, yet Sun Quan, logically, offers Gan Ning a place in their army. This is a very interesting clash here as he argues with Ling Tong on this before Tong storms off.
comment in response to post
Sun Quan feels the same urge for vengeance, but he only agrees to the idea if it would provide a tactical advantage, which is where Lu Su lays the groundwork for the "Two Kingdoms" plot by mentioning how Xiakou can lead to Jing itself. Thus, Sun Quan is moved to action.
comment in response to post
Sun Quan reaches a point where they contemplate their next move as a kingdom, and it is here where Ling Tong makes the open suggestion for "revenge", to which almost the entire army (Save for Cheng Pu, who calls out the malicious intent) agrees with. Sun Quan, however, has a logical moment.
comment in response to post
Huang Zu acts as a central antagonist to the Wu Army after the death of Sun Ce (As is the case in the novel), and the resolution comes with Sun Quan taking the initiative and routing him, but not before, in a prior battle, Gan Ning claims the life of Ling Cao, father of Ling Tong.

Relatable. Seen it at my own old outlet and its owners. Every single one they bought gets gutted and replaced with a husk that is "In Name Only" what it once was and becomes just another "SEO Farm" of sorts.

Tim Skold joined KMFDM about 15 years after the band formed + I don't think he had a hand in that song either in complete fairness. I also don't think Skold's been involved with the band for some time yet after I think the first of several breaks.

This deeply saddens me on so many levels that this is a discussion that even needs to be had now.
