The Renata skin one definitely looks less gaudy, but the visual effects (while cleaner) seem less impressive. They reduced the thorns and petals, or got rid of them entirely for some animations.
Maybe more subtlety is good because the Black Rose operate within the shadows? I wouldn't know.
