It's worth noting that Republican-dominated states are the only states in the US with both: 1) lowered age of consent laws, and 2) lowered marriage age laws.
The Republican state of Kansas has a consent age of 15 and a marriage age of 16. Mississippi has a 16 consent age and no marriage minimum.
