And the retaliation attack on Qatar triggered combat pay for almost everyone in Theater. Welcome to the Gravy Train! Orders of magnitude costlier than the ‘Perade!’

I’m seeing a lot of innocent young Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen who are going to spend their lives in (underfunded) VA care because of this.

A pair nested in my motorcycle helmet, inside my garage. I didn’t have the heart to evict them. Fortunately I had a spare.

Good one! An almost unbelievable series of sea actions. And then they sailed into … well, who knows what?

How many of those “Guardsmen “ are openly questioning their deployment? Standing in the hot sun all day confronting their friends and neighbors…yeah… “patriots.”

Mark, one of the reasons I DON’T post more is because I don’t have to “fight “ with people!

In the 90’s Rick ‘Zeringer’ (his real name) had a dumpy motel on Islamorada in the Keys. We stayed there once. He’d play jazz guitar in the evenings. Not exactly the Rock Star lifestyle but he could twang the strangs!

There should be some good stories about “Steamboat races.”
Gags and clamps weren’t outlawed until after WW1.

It took a lot of “pressure “ to reform the use/abuse of safety and relief valves.

Too much engine, not enough common sense.
BTW, a big “Like” for your series on the Sultana.

It’s the second oldest union in the US. It was created to protect engineers from exploding boilers.

You seem to have a great data resource for wrecks. I’m searching for a foundering of the Brig ‘Tarquina’ near Honolulu in 1855 or so. It’s part of a family history project. There are some great references but nothing specific near Hawaii. Any direction to look? Thanks.

The Calhoon Engine Cadet on the Electric was George Wickboldt. His brother was killed in the explosion and sinking of the tanker Golden Dolphin. He”may have caused it” by welding in a gassy tank. Lightning struck twice for their Mama.

I’ve fished that stretch of coast for years. My buddies and I call it “tink-a-chink.” When we pronounce it like that the locals smile.

I finally heard your episode on the Marine Electric. Very good! I found myself nodding my head at a lot of passages. Especially the ones about “red hand” and thin steel.
My only ‘correction’ and I’m not trying to take a cheap shot but Chincoteague is pronounced ‘Shin- co -tea- geeg.’
Good report!
