I worry significantly more about mainstream evangelical protestants desires far more than I do fringe Catholics, and they were *always* going to hate the new pope, even if he'd been a hellfire breathing latin liturgy pushing regressive who thought the Spanish Inquisition was a grand idea.

I'm not catholic and I care about who the pope is a great deal, he has the ear of more than 1/8th of the world population. That's an absurd amount of power to vest in a single person...
While I feel there is no such thing as a *good* pope, there are definitely less bad popes
