The turns are .02 seconds long, the world is your enemy, and those little dudes will do what they want

That makes more sense. I haven't looked closely at those settings in the game. I was just trying to interpret the bare parameters

Cool, thanks! I'll check it out. Erosion and elevation frequency I think are the main ones with a few others helping. They have rivers cranked to the max and a lot of biomes turned off. This looks nuts. I was playing with elev freq last night and just kept hitting retry.

Lol It doesn't sound like the ham is the problem. Even I need a bit of fiber and a variety of alcohol to go with my ham. Maybe fewer ghosts too

It's nothing special yet. I'm working toward more varied surface terrain. Seeing if I can push it to make more canyons and such around rivers. I'm saving the parameters and save for each successful world. Still learning at this point. That joyous mountain one was the weirdest so far but still basic.

My last fort was a little older when I retired it. I noticed very little change in fps when I lost a big chunk of dwarfs but a big jump in fps when I walled off my mine. I suspect the distance or path complexity to reach all accessible areas has a bigger effect than pop size. Could be wrong though.

*nearly every mountain... There are some sad mountains hiding in the corner.

Best I could do is slap the meat sprite on as the head. Meat sprite could also be baby

Ham mod time. Does nothing but change every noun to ham. Searching is a nightmare and the word ham becomes your sleep paralysis demon.

One almost made it. If he had chosen a better direction to run he might have had a chance to hide. Unfortunately, the forgotten beast cornered him in the back of the mine and the fortress of Distancearmors fell to ruin.

Mid-slaughter this ettin rolled up. He came to avenge his father and half-sister who had attacked my fort in previous years. He climbed right over my walls and joined the fight with the forgotten beast. He provided enough distraction that some dwarfs tried to get away.

I think it would have worked if my adamantine mine had been closer to the center. He wanted his giant empty tomb to be slightly larger.

Getting attached to a dwarf in dwarf fortress is punishing. Someday they will decide to take a nap in a field right before an angry cyclops shows up. All you can do is watch as pieces of them get launched into the trees. You get to decide: Is that the end of their story or do you reload your save?

This Treasure of the Gods would fit in well. If only there was a way to send it donate it to your fort.

My issue with cavern dwellers is probably more of a cpu issue. I need to upgrade it sometime this year.

That's what I've done on every fort but if I get rid of everything I can and still have low fps, I can be pretty sure it's the 900 cavern dwellers slowly going insane from boredom and rampaging in the dark.

The only thing I've turned off recently is Cavern dweller invasions. I've never had a fort run so well. I've also never encountered vampires before. I guess they weren't common on my first world. I'm closing in on 400 hours and this is only my second world.

You're right. I confirmed the first one was a vampire in Legends. It's interesting that they can hide their identity. I can't check the Psycho because I never found out his name but everything lines up.

I've had 2 of these villains in this fort. The first one admitted to using a fake name but never showed up as a vampire. She was killed by a forgotten beast on its way though the dungeon. I kind of assume they are vampires but i don't know for sure.

And by that I mean I'm glad you reposted it with Dwarf Fortress in the text. I might never have found it otherwise!
