At what point is it simpler to assume that SpaceX is just a big insurance scam or ponzi scheme, and that he's blowing up those rockets on purpose.

Hey remember that time Tim Kaine was Hillary Clinton's running mate in an extremely well-funded campaign and lost to an extremely unpopular and beatable candidate.

I still find discourse about the difference between bluesky and Twitter boring. Are there some important differences? Yeah, and we have known what they are for a very long time. This doesn't need to be a multi-year discussion.

Absolutely ridiculous that the American national anthem was written by a slave-owning lawyer who represented owners of enslaved people who escaped. Embarrassing.

Transition care for trans people saves lives, but it doesn't need to save lives to be worthwhile. Trans care is simply good! It would be worthy of funding even if lives were not on the line!

You ever think about how the city of Fort Worth, TX is literally mining bitcoin out of city hall offices.

The prospect of the alt-right abandoning Trump en masse over its firm anti-war principles seems pretty unlikely to me, sorry.

Treat every single reactionary anti-trans "just asking questions" journalist and politician the same way you would treat Joseph Goebbels if he stood before you.

"... maize production could fall by 40% in the grain belt of the US, eastern China, central Asia, southern Africa and the Middle East; wheat production could fall by 40% in the US, China, Russia and Canada; & soybean yields could fall 50% in the US." www.cnn.com/2025/06/18/c...

we should always be demanding everything; never start with a compromise

I don't think I was supposed to feel so personally moved by Tim Robinson's character in Friendship. I don't like what this says about me.

In Israel's hour of need, the United States must stand by its strongest ally in the middle east by dumping more jet fighters into the ocean.

Every few years, I wonder how hard it would be to take over the Alameda County Republican Party. It seems like low-hanging fruit. During party elections, many of their Central Committee positions are uncontested.

What would be the funniest thing that could send Kristi Noem to the ER with an allergic reaction? I can't decide between jalapeños and dogs.

I increasingly worry that a lot of centrist pundits sincerely believe that cities around the country defended their police departments in 2020. They don't realize they're lying. They have just completely lost the ability to distinguish casual comments on Twitter from existing policy.

Interesting that I’m not seeing any reports of the “He’s An Asshole But The City Needs An Asshole To Stand Up To Trump” mayoral candidate doing any standing up to Trump re: the unjustified arrest of the sitting Comptroller

As Philadelphia’s jail population hits a 33 year low, Philadelphia homicides plummet to their lowest level since 1967. And after blaming him for virtually every bad thing under the sun, suddenly the national press abandons all interest in DA Larry Krasner. abolitionistlawcenter.org/2025/06/17/p...

It's not just the raids--- people are dying while in ICE custody, and we need to pay attention to this. A Haitian woman died in ICE custody in Florida in April. At the time ICE said her death was "under investigation". www.ice.gov/news/release...

Apropos of nothing in particular, Mississippi Masala is streaming on Criterion.

It is amazing that the Democrats will not and maybe can not roast the administration on what is already an unpopular war. Part of it’s their deeply internalized Israel-centric view of Iran and Middle East; part of it’s that they just suck and are natural losers

They've wanted a war in Iran for my entire life. For all the bluster about Trump creating a new Republican party, the neocons are finally getting their wish under his watch. May they all burn in hell.

Mental health train ride.

Trump has been negative on immigration twice; after the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case, and after the Stephen Miller quotas went into place and sparked unrest. This is a sign people should be leaning into his outrages to highlight how terrible they are, not running away from the issue.

Police enforcement drives overdoses because people are pushed to use alone which increases the risk of a fatal overdose, and confiscating drugs makes people buy again (maybe not from a trusted source) thereby increasing their chances of being sold toxic drugs which increases their risk of OD.

Bombing a TV station is a very straightforward war crime if anybody still cares about that sort of thing.

Los Angeles is only mentioned once on the front page of the NYT website right now, and it's a weather report.

I find it really hard to take seriously any political analysis that treats the term "wine mom" as a meaningful or coherent social category.
