Reid just seems so much better suited and dangerous in a LWB role than Hiebert/Watts at a RWB role. It would allow Wallem to slide over to RWB and Horn to play his preferred outside LCB spot. I get that we don’t see all training and are missing inside info, but all things equal—it just seems odd

Red hell indeed.

Hopefully we stop running a system that I think is poorly suited to our skill set. Why run 3 CBs and wing backs if (injuries acknowledged) we don’t have outside CBs that can play the ball or players besides Wallem than can play WB. Seems like a weird formation that highlights our biggest weaknesses

I Like your lineup. what’s you take on Reid? I feel he’s far better suited for WB role than Hiebert. Reid at LWB/Wallem at RWB just seems far more dangerous moving up than Wallem/Hiebert. Am I rating Reid too highly? Does Olof just value 1v1 defending more highly at that position than progression?

Cool. Cool. Cool cool cool. They say this type of thing builds character. We’re going to have so… much… character.

Lots of local elementary schools had a fundraiser night too. Took my kids through a school link. Was very pleasantly surprised to watch Miggy, JGR, and, later, Alm get some time in. After the game JGR did extra running on the field. He’s really trying to get into game shape.

Know that I know the terms of the deal with the devil we made in our first year, I’m not so sure I would have taken it.

Van give up very few goals; it’s been tough for any team to get good chances on them. But tonight’s CITY (barring a slow restart after half) looked like a team that will score some goals and win their share of matches. Definitely looked like progress to me

The history is real. The youth game is huge too. 3 StL folks on the recent USMNT, last USWNT captain from StL. A three year old MLS club is cool and obviously the flagship now, but it isn’t the thing people meant when they talk about St. Louis as a soccer city. Lots of good soccer cities though

Totland, Totland, Totland.

Despite injuries, we will be running out a Starting XI of Nilsson at LCB, Horn at Farther LCB, Kessler in the middle, Baumgartl 6” behind Kessler, Wentzel & Yaro tied together like a 3-legged race on the right, Hiebert RWB of course, Lundt, Burki & Olivares in a long trench coat. Klauss up top.

Had a joke about Cassandra but you already know the punchline.

Probably 50%, it’s basically replaced local sports radio for me. The rest I read on The Athletic, The Guardian, etc.

W/ the clean sheet streak rolling, I think you have to keep the same back 3 for now. With as high as totland has been playing, I wonder if Alm doesn’t actually take that spot when (if?) they’re both back and healthy. That’s one of the only real battles I see, except for all the possible CB combos

Ostrak filled in to finish out the game, but I’m not sure if that’s a position he’s comfortable in. If he has experience there, I’d say let Ostrak have a run while we wait for Alm to get back in a few weeks (the natural fit on that right side after Totland). Horn has been really good at LCB.

Against Philly, I’d like to see our best duo (still Cedi/Klauss imo) but I wonder if we hit Olof’s magic 60min mark down a goal, if his subs include Celio

How’s the vibe? City Park-ish?

Not sure exactly why but I have a gut reaction against all the betting talk on a few other StL City podcasts. I actually stopped listening to those as a result. I’m not adamantly opposed to sports betting, but the harms it causes still make it tough for me to embrace.

Sell the team. Move them to Albuquerque.

Absolutely fantastic work. When St. Louis got their team I wanted a way to learn more about the league. By the end of that season, Extratime had become my favorite podcast and something I really looked forward to every week. Sad to see it go.

As a StL City fan… it’d be funnier if they didn’t.

Most interested in how these are balanced: Klauss-Becher (Tuechert as the 9.5), and Celio-Alm (assuming Hartel is always in when fit). Also low-key excited to see Watts backing up Totland more often if Nerwinski isn’t resigned. Think there’s anything to the rumors of a back 3 this year?

I wish him nothing but the best, really liked so much about him. with a more skilled roster (like our current one) and more depth to cover for injuries and fatigue, I think his Plan A can be pretty effective. But you have to coach the team you have, and a lack of Plan B is a fair criticism.

I feel like Watts fits a lot of those traits too. Young, can play RB, the 6, the 8. No one has him listed though. Is there something I’m missing—Contract status? Salary? I’m I just rating him too highly (not saying he’s a world beater or a starter, but I’m never sad to see him in the starting XI)

I’d really like to hang on to Reid as well. I think he has the potential to be a really exciting left back in a system that lets him be creative going forward. His defending needs work, but that was true of the entire team in 2024.

Congrats man, that’s awesome!

Score a goal? Everyone stop and eat a chip. Great save? Eat a chip. Corner kick? Chip. Get absolutely blown up by Klauss and sent rolling back into the weight room? Better believe that’s a chip.

All the bundesliga 2 jokes are warranted, but I don’t think criticism is. Hell, if Lutz can consistently find Teucherts, Lowens, and Hartels for very reasonable fees (or frees), then I’m cool if they just replace all the signage at CityPark with German.
