Whoa, not so fast power cuts are entirely possible!

As a chart guy, I have to admit that O'Brien is an example of how charts and spreadsheets often form a smooth pipeline to ethnonationalism. Back on the everything app, YIMBY groypers were A THING.

It remains a mystery why Russia *annexing* Crimea, something never done since the end of WW2, is constantly overlooked as an insignificant detail in the chain of events while any questionable action by a Ukrainian football hooligan or something someone in the US admin said is endlessly scrutinised.

Sorry your class doesn't mean you can do whatever you want and claim innocence.

Invasion started before 2022 and even e.g. Odesa firebombing happened after Crimea got occupied and Russian paramilitaries occupied Donbas cities. Does this count as "starting the war"? If no, why "funding" does?
comment in response to post
Moreover, working class people are just people who do bad and good things just like everyone else. Some have done hideous things in this war + working class people are massively overrepresented among its supporters. Why should anyone 'stan' them blindly?
comment in response to post
Again, even if this was true that does not mean Russia didn't start the war, best you can conclude from this "Russia started the war, which was good".
comment in response to post
Again even if it was true, it only means the US was "covertly funding reactionaries", in response to which Russia started a war, not really refuting the point.

That isn't true, but even if it was, so what? Russian Federation as a state also didn't exist before the fall of the USSR, look up then-president Medvedev actually saying it.

This whole account is just recycled official propaganda line, and even the communist stuff defanged, try to find anything about idk the labour rights in today's Russia even. It is always just "glorious past" which is again 100% safe to admire unlike criticising Putin from the communism perspective.

This person is just unashamed Russian imperialist entertaining views that are absolutely safe to have in Russia but somehow still willing scoring brownie points for posting something supposedly brave and unorthodox.

Pretty much all kinds of farming aren't economically sustainable in developed countries, which is the reason to a) continue supporting it; and b) for farming communities to be more humble instead of seeing themselves as the salt of the land.

I am not 100% persuaded by a combo of hidden lugs and a mesh bracelet in principle, but on this specific piece it works because it doesn't look new so it's ok to appear a bit odd.

Haven't seen this one before! Orange minute hand screams Citizen to me (but that is not a bad thing).

It is insane, isn't it? I first thought that "ok, that maybe happened once or twice somewhere in the provinces as a link in a chain of many other bad things seen in the countries fighting a long existential war, but you cannot extrapolate it etc.", but turns out this campist just made it up???

One can say that post-Soviet Armenia was extremely mono-ethnic until recently, but then again she also included Georgia, so yes, her omitting Azerbaijan from the list is funny.

But not all people who think Israelis are hugely overstepping whatever justifications they may have after the attack and that it has long become an immoral and illegal ethnic cleansing operation are like this, plus similar inconsistent reasoning can seen coming from some Ukraine supporters.

The most commonly found variety is when people believe Oct 7 was based, actually, but 'Azov battalion' patches mean the whole UAF consists Nazis; or that war is so bad that you should just unconditionally surrender because whatever follows will be still better, but also "from the river to the sea".

It must be said though that if one decides to opine, and through that reveals they use a different measuring stick for that, this doesn't reflect well on them.

People have limited emotional capacity, so the fact someone doesn't say anything about another conflict doesn't necessarily mean they don't care. Myself I follow the war in Ukraine way more closely than any other ongoing conflict, including for 'subjective' reasons as I myself used to live in Russia

See, I gave you a wide off ramp here, but you still had to say "actually don't care about spending disclosures, I just hate America, and so anything that it supports has to be wrong". Message received, thanks!

It's easy, former Yugoslavia. It is now a bunch of very much not failed states (most if not all very safe holiday destinations) which is a stark difference to a genocidal hellhole before the 1990s intervention.

"It should be clearly stated if your donations are being spent on weapons" - yeah, can agree (often already the case). If your initial point is ONLY about that, then it is difficult to argue with. "Anyway, military support for an invaded country is morally wrong" - whoa things just got more complex
comment in response to post
Seriously, you have a completely imaginary mental picture of this war, it seems, that also (supposedly entirely accidentally) aligns with Russian-backed far right propaganda.

Where the fuck did you see child soldiers there?
comment in response to post
Not as much the desire of Russian victory in particular but rather an automatic assumption that whatever 'the West' does in foreign policy is automatically malignant and needs to be resisted. Multiply it by the factor Western leftist often resent Eastern Europe for rejecting the Soviet model.
comment in response to post
This is very true. I reckon you also happen to think that, for example, Palestinians should just do what Israel wants them to in order to stop the conflict, which also looks unwinnable for them? I don't mean that ironically or as a gotcha, genuinely interested if you're a pacifist or a Russophile.

I think Scottish nationalism will follow the same curve as the Irish one, a coalition of libs and nativists united by the only nationalist-coded ballot option will be showing more and more cracks. You can see it already with Forbes getting close to becoming a leader.
