Yeah. RoR is the original modern web framework. I guess I’m dating myself.

I started my career with Ruby on Rails, and I love it because code is beautiful. As a result I prefer Vue.

Not sure if it counts but for me it’s ChatGPT

I the case of Taiwan, I feel a strong echo of Ukraine before the Russian invasion.
I remember seeing on TV people in Ukraine said “it’s always been like this, nothing to worry” on the street when they were surrounded by tanks. And look at what happened.

China indeed has a lot more capability. The one thing they don’t have though is experience, at least compared to the US. They haven’t fought a war since 1949.

Congrats man. You deserve it.

I mean didn’t work when I pushed to Heroku
comment in response to

It wasn’t an upgrade. I like using Rails to build static websites, because I’m familiar with it, I just built one using 8, and this time the asset pipeline was changed and I had to do several things to get it to work. I can’t recall exactly what I did.

I’d say marketing and product are two jobs in one. If that’s not the same person, the two people or teams need to work in lock step. Marketing needs to have direct influence into how products are built.
comment in response to
post
Yeah, for me it was the new asset pipeline that’s not seamless with Heroku
comment in response to
post
Yeah. I wish it wasn’t the case. The reason I still stick with Rails is it has resisted the complexity other frameworks fall into.

Insights are hard to come by, but when they do I do post them.
I feel on Bluesky I’m more free to speak of mind because 1) people actually hear and 2) people I know aren’t on here yet

Yes, the story angle is key. It’s a waste of time if the story is nothing new.

Cool, if you know them personally I’d love to get an introduction. Part of the reason I came to Taiwan is to find tech talents here.
Taiwanese people have a combination of high technical ability, strong work ethic, and less costly, especially in software.

No I’ve not heard. Is it a Taiwanese company?

Thanks. I will definitely research it and see

Taiwan is definitely much quieter. Nothing compared to China. What you get in Taiwan is good and affordable living, health care and all the rest. It’s a good place to live. Not too many people are hustling.
But it is a great place to establish a mid-tier software business due to affordable talent.

Mostly it’s for people building SaaS, followed by apps.

I’m from Taiwan but lived in the US for 30 years. Everyone I go back to Asia I get a different perspective after returning to the US. After a while it wears off as I get used to the US lifestyle (which is a bit boring). This is why I plan to spend more time on the other side of the world.

Rails, and possibly Vue

That’s what I thought originally, but realistic a download costs around $3 to acquire. With that I only get 1-3 downloads a day, I much rather hustle in social media and other channels to acquire the same number of users.

Yes I do work on weekend, but in a more casual pace. If I stop working, it’ll be really hard to pick the pieces back up on Monday.

Our minds take a while to catch up to our activity. Solid plan to do something concrete to get into the maker mode. Fight stasis with motion.

For me, I wanted to do the same with my old app greenbooks.app which is at similar level. But when I think of it as part of my portfolio of work along with my current app, it seems to have more value. Now what I want to build is a portfolio of small bets.

Awesome, wish to visit there some day. I’m taking some time off in Taiwan, but have been working ever since I got off the plane. Reminds me to step out.

Yes, the gap between western media and how Taiwanese actually feel is great.
