as someone who has worked on the hill, this is correct. but the secret to making your phone calls impactful to republicans is to sound like a boomer and say “I’m a centrist who voted for you in the past but I’m really worried about this bill because it will increase the deficit and cut Medicaid”

The Personal Rule of Charles I.

me: ezra klein has shitty takes because he is in a polycule with bari weiss friend in DMs: holy shit no way me: okay so im joking but there’s a very good chance he is *a* polycule but idk who it actually is lol me, one day later: OK so it turns out his wife was genuinely in a throuple with weiss

This is such an obviously gross story that I saw a Trump stan on Facebook try to rationalize it by insisting that it must have been a plot by "Trump haters" within ICE to make him look bad. www.mississippifreepress.org/ice-arrests-...

we are just sending people to the worst places on earth

Again: This is not about conning voters, who do not notice or care about CBO scores but will notice closing hospitals, reduced benefits, etc. It’s about conning themselves, especially congressional Republicans.

everything means the opposite for these people. freedom means your freedom to obey. the first amendment means their freedom to tell you what you can read and think.

correct

Great chart from @josephpolitano.bsky.social on the nonstop Mad King tariff policy changes. Folks used to at least pretend to care about massive economic policy uncertainty back in the days when the Black Man in the Tan Suit was in office. Quaint, simpler times, I guess... 🧐🤔

"It may seem as though the worst excesses of DOGE have passed. The reality is, the whole government is DOGE now." read @brbarrett.bsky.social's last musings on DOGE (for now!) before he hands @wired.com's politics lab newsletter off to @jakelahut.writes.news!

That’s the thing. Their tentacles are in everything already

this is an awful synopsis and subheadline even by fail upward trust fund media brunchlord standards

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only real things in politics are gender and crises of elite reproduction

I was thinking about complementing my background public policy with taking a pretty rigorous approach to learning how to combat corruption, and I thought the best way to learn more is to read about the competition between monarchs and the nobility (specifically Western Europe).

“Fiscal hawks” bsky.app/profile/mcop...

it's state propaganda now

man, CBS is just going absolutely all-in on destroying their news reputation

this is gonna backfire

NEWS: The courts have decided against DOGE and the US government in their legal battle to take full control of the United States Institute of Peace, including a headquarters building with an estimated value of $500 million. www.wired.com/story/usip-d...

Racism is so popular in the US that we have a party in power that feels comfortable reallocating billions from healthcare for the poor to tax cuts for the rich.

Going back in time to 2009 to tell someone of my demographic that in 2025, we'll have the first openly gay treasury secretary, the first PoC FBI director, and a president that Kanye West supports and whose policy making is driven by Elon Musk.

The general public does not fully grasp everything that the federal government does, and many are experiencing a very harsh awakening. It’s just sad, and it really doesn’t have to be this way.

They literally did it was the Roman Republic they all read Cicero and they gave us all the tools that he didn’t have but in the end you need public virtue to pick them up.

Politicians were such cowards about the drone delusions, and that really pisses me off.

Republican control of the information environment means voters don't hear about GOP failures but Dem failures are endlessly repeated. When no Dem failures exist they invent fake ones and repeat those

Genuinely galling

The administration has been very insistent on gutting agencies that actually have demonstrated competence at finding waste & fraud or improving government efficiency, presumably because they’re in a position to show that DOGE is doing neither.

We're at the point in Grandpa Moldbrain's decline where he's *repeating* his destructive acts of senility.

"It is my suspicion that a lot of the newly-online people created by the pandemic ended up developing Internet-use problems that they didn't have in the past, and they also weren't equipped with the defenses against total mind-rot that people like [us] have developed over time."

I don’t think you can overstate how Trump’s senior moments were media white washed during the campaign. Like the Q and A that devolved into him just standing and swaying silently to music framed as a fun communal event. They positively branded his Grandpa Simpson rambling as a masterful “weave” lol

Trump himself and people in his orbit have more plainly and more often said stuff like this than Trump opponents ever have, even setting aside that he actually incited—as in really met the Brandenburg test in my opinion—a deadly lynch mob against Congress and the VP.

maybe the journalists who published a book on Biden’s mental acuity should spend more of their time focusing on the current extremely senile president

This is far-right propaganda masquerading as journalism. Biden is an 82-year-old retiree who has no formal role in the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, the current president's brain continues to glitch over the word "groceries."

the President of the United States, everyone

Starving people in need and weakening America’s soft power was apparently so important to the Trump regime that they’re letting food that could feed millions rot in storage rather than giving it out as previously scheduled.

lol why would they admit what time the change was made. who the fuck else is up at 3 am crying about white genocide in south africa
