Shabbat Shalom to everyone who recognizes that the safety, freedom & thriving of Jews and Muslims are bound up together — in Israel & Palestine, across the five boroughs, and in many other beloved places.

Stripping birthright citizenship from people born in this country goes against rights guaranteed in the Constitution. We must stand against unconstitutional actions and stand up for the fundamental rights granted to people in the United States of America.

Remember, this ruling applies only to the specific parents who sued the Montgomery County Board of Education; the Board need not provide opt-out notification to any other parent in the county, since the injunction applies only to the parties

The Navy named a destroyer after Oscar Peterson in 1943, one year after he died. Pretty sure his family was aware of that honor even if Jake Tapper was not.

There's a reason Samuel, in this week's haftarah warns about the dangers of appointing a king, and cautions the people that they & the king must worship God, not human power. And there's a reason the Talmud says that every town worthy of residency must have a court of law. (1/2)

The end-result of this will be a religious minority demanding an injunction against a christian display of some kind, and the supreme court ruling that christianity has privileges other faiths don't bsky.app/profile/reic...

This is the comic. The only comic.

“if you’re at a bar and a Nazi shows up and you don’t kick him out now you’re at a Nazi bar” but half of the time people are insisting there’s no Nazi standing next to them and the other half of the time people are blaming people in this bar for a Nazi in a bar two blocks away and I’m tired.

Do y’all not see that these attempts to make Mamdani a Jew vs Muslim issue is CLASSIC white supremacy pitting minority groups against each other in order to divide us because we are very dangerous to them when we’re in community?? Are y’all for real gonna fall for that shit!?

One thing the Obama transition got wrong was thinking—once in office, policy differences aside—everyone would be pulling in the same direction. And then Republicans spent inauguration eve planning to oppose literally everything the new admin would attempt. Why do I bring that up here? Oh, no reason.

I know this is going to be written off as white fragility, and it's not *not* that, but I think it's important to understand that one of the reasons why many Jews are ...like this... is because our entire history is stories of thinking we were safe and then having our neighbors violently turn on us.

THE GREAT KHAN PRITZKER SAYS MOUNT THE FUCK UP

Becoming apparent every day how the elites in DC/NY's media/political bubble - drunk on right-wing media fed rhetoric - are completely out of touch with rest of the country on its nuanced perspective on immigration.

People claim that NYC has better bagels because of "the water" and this must be the only time in history that people have invented elaborate theories to *avoid* blaming the Jews.

Hot girl summer? OUT. Hot Yochanan summer? INNNNNNN☀️

This is a wonky process but BIG news regarding the Republican budget bill: My staff successfully got multiple provisions removed from the bill. Two key wins: 1) Medicaid provider tax. Striking this means Republicans have to backtrack on hundreds of billions in Medicaid cuts.

the corollary of yelling at dems when they're bad is we should appreciate when they do good. this is great to see

They wrote this exact same article about AOC at this exact point in 2018, there was probably one published this exact date

I've got a joke about the 8th Doctor, but I've forgotten it.

This has been the problem with Brandon Johnson. People elected him to be a progressive champion. Johnson serves as a machine politician.

I'm not going to reskeet the skeet that made me feel the need to say this but: NYC is a very Jewish city - public schools are closed for Yom Kippur. It's also a very Muslim city - public schools are closed for Ramadan. It's also one of the most Catholic cities in the nation.

Casino Royale and From Russia With Love are both actually good movies: the rest are Bond movies, for good and bad

Any excuse to repost an all-time Bluesky banger

Well then.

I enjoyed BRING HER BACK (2025) but don’t want to set a precedent that it is OK for Australians to make feature length films. Baz Luhrmann can do it because he is technically from outer space

Honestly, this made me laugh out loud (maybe it was more of a horrified cynical rattle). Points for honesty!

this is very good news. Nadler is extremely mainstream and it will be very hard to keep the Scary Zohran thing going if he has not only Lander but also Nadler in his corner

“Great Palestinian Senator Chuck Schumer”—unsurprisingly, Trump opposing Mamdani is more antisemitic than anything Mamdani has ever been accused of doing.

Again it's very telling what journalists feel comfortable editorializing about

You ever laugh so hard seeing something that you choke on your own tongue

I talked about this on The Bad Site, but I faced what was, for me, a shocking amount of direct antisemitism in high school and college. Whether it was having a friend stop associating with me, calling me a kike, or frat bros “fishing for Jews” dangling dollars off their porches.

Jews absolutely come by our fear honestly, and way too many non-Jews are dismissive of our vulnerability, but too many of us take that fear and let it fester into something deeply ugly

thread: The City's map is actually really useful because it shows an interesting political split in NYC's Jewish community, between the Orthodox/Ultra-Orthodox and more liberal flavors of Jews... 1/

If I had a nickel for every 21st century presidential candidate with close family members who served as highly educated bureaucrats in early post-colonial 1960s East African governments, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice

for the punditry: Mamdani was born in Uganda so he’s not eligible for the presidency

On this day in 1978, the rainbow flag first flew as a symbol of pride. It was raised at San Francisco Gay Freedom Day.

have the people who thought Cuomo would win because "I stand with Israel" was the top issue for NYC Dem primary voters considered that maybe they are trapped in an information bubble by getting their news through a social media platform that isn't representative of reality?
