Probably the least efficient way to operate the department of government efficiency

Probably a good time to revisit what Gary Cohn said about Trump’s steel & aluminum tariffs hurting capital expenditures in the U.S. the last go around

That seems like a reasonable observation. Since Chauncey became coach they’ve tanked for better draft odds every season. And since his contract expires at the end of this season, from his perspective he may as well get some wins & make a surprise push to the play-in. He’d want assurances to tank

Just in case anyone wants a visualization of the history of highest marginal tax rates & corporate tax rates

It is. The only small victory here is it’s slightly satisfying to see Greg Abbott being included in the field with a 0% chance

Funeral Director here: People who pass away don’t receive social security checks once the agency has been notified. We fill out a form (SSA-721) and fax it directly to social security.
Elon Musk is lying to you.

Musk didn’t even understand how the budget for EV chargers worked (which is probably something he should have *some* understanding of) until Pete Buttigieg broke it down for him in a Twitter thread.

How DOGE operates reminds me of an unfunny version of this Zoolander scene

Vaguely saying you’ll “fight” eventually looks like this (which is not good):

Define “fight”. I’m not asking about how you’d cosplay this real life scenario. I’m asking what actionable steps you will take in this real life scenario. And don’t deflect about “billionaire worship”. Nobody likes billionaires (including me) but I’m legitimately asking your real world solution

In this same interview he talks about how his company reduced one prescription from $3,000 a month to $63 a month. The company isn’t profitable yet, but he’s doing it anyway.

I can’t find it for the life of me but Kamala had a great comment in passing about her proposal to offer 25k in down payment assistance. She viewed the 25k as an investment in the people: homeownership could create stable communities & increase tax base (which would fund schools & public safety)

So if I’m understanding Peter Thiel’s support of Trump correctly (and that’s really hard to do, because apparently he isn’t capable of vocalizing a single clear thought):
Biden is to blame for stagnation and housing affordability but Trump won’t fix it either
comment in response to

Agreed. What sucks is the Biden admin took steps to move us in that direction (Inflation Reduction Act encouraging sustainable energy) & Harris had more proposals to go in that direction (tax code & funding to encourage homeownership to benefit local communities) but the majority voted against that

Trying again: given the current administration, what would you suggest doing?

100%. Monetizing “clicks” could end up being the downfall of society. Our only hope is getting people to join a coalition that rejects the “clicks” and decides to 1. think critically, and 2. look out for each other

I know you’re responding to the excellent post from @lathoril.bsky.social …but as an American, I just want to wish you luck in beating your tenu trump. Any type of trump is a bad trump and it’s a whole lot easier to get rid of them if you don’t stupidly vote them in the first time

How in the world is that not the point? Would you rather billionaires willingly lose money (because they can afford to) while creating a system that would benefit *everyone* (like what Mark Cuban is doing) or would you rather they give up their wealth so they CAN’T do that?

I don’t always agree with him, but he’s one of the only billionaires who battles against all this MAGA oligarchy garbage, rather than join it. And even when I disagree with his stance, I can at least understand it’s coming from a pragmatic place (not self indulgent)

Huh?

Agree! I don’t have a fully formed thought on this but I think there should be larger incentives for smaller & mid-sized local businesses (who actually care about their communities) to slow the corporatization of every tiny thing in our day to day lives

Totally agree. How do you suggest we achieve this outcome on a global scale?
