The Exclusion Act became law on July 1, 1923, which Chinese Canadians called “Humiliation Day”. This song — Never Forget July 1 — was written in 1924. A timely reminder on the eve of Canada Day 2025.

To mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, I gave him a copy of The Damned, the tragic story of Canadians who fought in the Battle of HK and the horrors they faced in Japanese prison camps.
