Knowing your events which I’ve attended and they are great, I think it was a fluke - coming off a holiday weekend, end of school year chaos, universities are done for the year, sports, etc. Sorry I couldn’t attend last night, I had an appointment but hope to make next one! 🌏🌊🌏πŸ”₯🌍

I believe in you! But yeah, we did a native plant workshop for landscape professionals in spring of 24 (free lunch, resources, continued ed credits) - both Pittsburgh and Erie were able to completely fill with 40 attendees, Philly had 25! So many people dropped out.

Unsure if it’s a Philly thing, late stage capitalism, burnout, post pandemic or all of the aboveπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Philly + surrounding burbs turn out for environmental/nature/climate events are low - not just my experience but also heard from other folks (local enviro non-profits).

Should I tag a certain Philly scientist that has been doing great work with native plants and has a wayyy bigger platform than little old meπŸ€”

All good, just curious if it is a common thing happening across cities and if so, why?

Sad and interesting to hear that is going on in Detroit. Yeah, there is work being done in Philly but unsure how much I can say online. I think for some of the universities it makes sense they are doing work in the communities they are based in but the larger national non-profits is a bit baffling.

I see a similarity to parachute science/helicopter research where they come in, do a project (usually a plan) then leave without building local capacity and or staying and providing guidance/assistance.
