It has devolved into a mexican standoff with rhystic study making everything midrange hell. It is a poor competitive format. I think any competitive format with more than 2 players will eventually devolve into everyone playing the "correct" way.

Although coming from 60 card competitive magic, I find cEDH to be a poor format. I much prefer Duel Commander or Canadian Highlander.

Definitely an imperfect heuristic. I've always seen the mindset that the only difference is a 5 doesn't care about the commander. It is only a means to an end while trying to win in a metagame environment and using the play style of your choice to achieve that goal.
