That said, it's an interesting hypothesis. A flat example of this is adolescence online criticism, where everything is either the worst ever or the best ever because the entertainment of sensational opinions has erased a generation's ability to say things are just average.

There's absolutely a trend in schools to romanticizing some creative works and gloss over messages stated plainly while interpreting everything as abstract.
But this isn't as bad as a trend of readers who are completely oblivious to themes and symbolism.
