This concrete example is unprecedented as of now, but yes, it probably could happen, and yes, manufacturers do abuse their power like that.
Every device that needs an app on its own/from its manufacturer to fully function will do so only until that app and the servers behind it are up & running

You won't be when it gets remotely disabled by the manufacturer at the end of its "official support period" in like 2 years

And I don't like the 12-hour clock. Who thinks starting with 12 when counting to 12 is normal?

Can't say for sure, but in my theory, those might've played a part.
But people have always been curious and have always been looking for answers. It's not their fault they found the wrong ones.
However, insisting on keeping those beliefs and rejecting progress is a whole another story IMO

I also find it interesting how most well-known religions originate from areas with mind-altering drugs available (like Southwest Asia - the Middle East with poppy plants - opiates, South America with hallucinogenic mushrooms and coca plants)
Must be a coincidence...

However noble these intentions and your suggestions are, they may backfire. You know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions [4/4]

Then we can come up with "better" and "better" solutions, as you've suggested above, which will result in even more complex crawlers that are even harder to obstruct.
With all the support behind it, crawlers will always win, and we'll end up with crawlers that are nearly impossible to stop [3/4]

Also, define "better". Better for whom? Better for what purpose? Better on what timeline?
Yes, currently it's possible to create such temporary obstacles. Then the devs of these crawlers will bypass them, making them more complex. [2/4]

It's not about solutions. It's about whether it's worth starting a war against something that has unlimited money and support behind it, even from some pretty powerful governments. Something that, in the long run, we'll end up not being able to even slow down, thanks to these attempts [1/4]

This sounds way too easy to detect and bypass. The only thing this will achieve is put an unnoticably small dent into these crawlers' process until they become more complex and harder to stop

Probably too expensive to host and moderate

I do realize binary jokes in this day and age are untasteful and I'm sorry

Brave Browser can block YouTube ads, too

Is it just me, or laser cut reindeer sounds like a modern Christmas dish

It's okay if you have kids.
It's absolutely not okay to have a picture of them in your profile in any online dating app.
I mean, I'm trying not to be judgmental, but what kind of person does that to their kids?!

It would be nice to have this in your merch store as a digital download (preferably in FLAC)

They protect and serve.
They just don't tell you whom they protect and serve. You have to figure that part out for yourself. Luckily(?), they don't hide it very well

On the other hand, building your reputation by "consulting" an AI before submitting your work from now on might be smart

By my definition, them showing their employer that they can easily be replaced by an AI subscription is not a smart move.
From the employer's point of view, employing someone who can be easily replaced by a much cheaper AI subscription isn't smart, either, in my opinion.

Also, he could still be at large if McDonald's paid decent wages, as a few thousand dollars of reward wouldn't be as tempting

You can get that remaining 1% by submitting the feedback to an AI checker tool like scribbr.com/ai-detector/
If it confirms your suspicion, it might be worth forwarding the results to the manager mentioned above

Also, once you try a file manager that truly helps with productivity, you'll realize just how abysmal Nautilus is

And that's just one of the many annoyances I had with that system.
Regardless, I never had similar issues on Mint.
Also, I'm yet to be forced to do anything via CLI on Mint. Haven't been necessary once.

It depends on your definition of "usable." Not being able to move a download location selection window that's in focus to double-check which utility bill I clicked on to download seems unnecessarily limiting to me. But it also might be just a Gnome quirk (I don't like Gnome either).

Yeah, but the thing is, you never know. The probability of it never happening is about the same as it happening any day. And these things usually happen at very inconvenient times.
If it's not a critical system, it's fine to take that risk. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it. But that's just me

Mileage may vary.
Also depends on one's expectations. In my experience, Zorin places aesthetics above usability/practicality, which I also don't like.
I've been using Mint for years. Never had any serious issues with that one
