Strawberries have lots of new growth, leaves have just come out on the gooseberries, my haskaps are very close to breaking open, and the buds are just beginning to swell on my fruit trees. Would have thought the asparagus would be doing *something* by now. 🌱

has the ground warmed thoroughly? we had a few couple of cold spells this winter.
no sign of movement in my ferns here in toronto, but 20c will change that soon. (craving a fiddlehead about now.)

I would say my asparagus comes up mid-spring rather than early spring, and are most productive in late spring. I’ve heard they can rot if ground conditions are very wet, but haven’t experienced that myself.

Mine isn't up yet either and it's a solidly established and very happy patch. Things are just a cpl weeks late this year I think; the crocuses blooming now in my garden are usually out at the very beginning of April

Something just dug up half my largest patch of crocuses (squirrels, probably 😬) and the patch on the other side of the yard has been eaten by something, but I'm not sure what since the yard has been rabbit-proofed.

Noooooo D: I always suggest interplanting lots of garlic and/or ornamental relatives - my garden is remarkably unbothered despite a whole treeful of squirrels next door, and my many alliums are my best guess as to why

You can even just break up a head of garlic and stick the cloves in the ground, they'll grow!
