Truth!

I am constitutionally unable to sit down to a lecture or reading WITHOUT a pen and paper, ready to roll with those notes. (I tease people back by calling it my ADHD fidget: only half joking because w/o those items, I'm awful to sit next to - shift, shift, twist, shift...)

I barely needed to study for school because I used to take massive notes in class. Going through the notes and putting them in better writing/format and my studying was basically done.
Kept this up for work and was usually the only one remembering details from the meetings.

I'm sure your being engaged/not taking helps lead to ACTUALLY remembering. I'm super paranoid about these things just hallucinating, and everyone nodding and agreeing with a fact that's fake. Ug, good luck.
