Gut reaction:

Swallowing-wise, this kind of statement is like a baked potato dipped in sand. Smells great, feels weird in the mouth, painful to swallow and probably unhealthy.

I agree that scientific papers with half-baked ideas are annoying, but that's where the potato stops and the sand starts.

In science, it's better for your ideas to be wrong than to be vague. A wrong yet precise idea can be quickly tested and corrected, but a vague one cannot be tested at all, and can make you waste a lot more time.
