I'm almost at the point where I think we need to abolish the presidency as it is currently structured is the appropriate position. I think we have vested entirely too much power in the presidency. The president takes an oath to uphold the constitution and ensure all laws are faithfully followed. - ThreadSky

The president does decide what laws are correct and cannot remove programs authorized by congress when there is a disagreement. The agencies of the executive branch derive their capabilities from appropriations from Congress. Courts adjudicate disputes and sometimes determine constitutionality.

Executive orders are meant for guidance only. They are not laws. They don't supersede Congress and the Courts. They are not meant to be a shortcut to avoid laws and the constitution. We really need to abolish this form of the Presidency. It is itself becoming unconstitutional.

Congress and the Courts need to reclaim their authority. More importantly people need to reclaim their authority. Our rights are not contingent on who is President. Our rights are protected under the law and the constitution. The President's dislike of someone or something is of no import.

Every structure in the government needs to lead to freedom otherwise it is of no use. A Presidency predicated on attacking and claiming coercive power as a right is not a legitimate Presidency and needs to be abolished.
