I read it brand new off the spinner rack. My adolescent brain didn’t pick up any of it at the time. I have to say it was quite disturbing revisiting the issue as an adult, now recognizing the disturbing content, after having enjoyed it as a kid.

I remember being disappointed she was leaving the Avengers. I had a couple issues of her solo title, so she was one of my favorite on the team.
I was a bit confused then 2 years later whenCarol shows up in Uncanny X-Men with no powers. It took me more than a decade to find an Avengers Annual #10.
I think "sexual assault" is one of those things you don't start picking up on until you grow up a bit. Even in the Disney-fied storybooks of Greek myths there's a lot of stuff you can easily tell is not okay when you're older, but I never understood it in those terms when I was a kid.
Also, the narrative device being so hand wavy and none of the characters dealing with the seriousness that the subject matter actually is helps you as a kid to just hand wave it yourself.
Finally reading Avengers Annual 10 is what brought me back to Issue 200 again. Having had Claremont spell everything out for me made it easy to hone in on all the things I missed as a kid. I immediately reacted to it as cringe to the Nth level.
