I have just been in a conference where a geologist (elderly) was trying to challenge plate tectonics. I was quite surprised... The main argument being his authority/ reputation
I have a global volcanism poster from around the time plate tectonics was being established, and it's so funny how all the patterns are being identified, but not the connections. SO CLOSE π€
Maybe Dr. Always-Right should take an intro to geology class and catch up.
Iβve been going through 1950s Scientific American and thereβs all these articles about continents & ocean basins and Iβm yelling at them through my computer because they are SO CLOSE.
Sometime between 1978-84 I heard a talk by Art Myerhoff, an anti-plate-tectonics guy who has long since passed away. I havenβt run across any of them in this century. Itβs surprising to know some are still around.
This guy is advising governments...
I also know a number of geophysicists that think O&G is abiotic. In 2007 at a specialist conference on palaoglaciations there was a guy furious, claiming there were no ancient glaciations.
I can't really figure out how you end up like that as a "scientist".
