I cannot get behind this line of thinking. If people say "marginalized group X is monstrous", that's bad because it essentializes the monstrosity as inherent in the group. The solution to that is to reject the essentialist association, not to reject monstrosity as a rhetorical tool.

I try pretty hard to be aware of this stuff but it's a lot harder online than in real life, not least because there are things which are absolutely not understood as antisemitic in the UK but would be in the US, and in online spaces nobody has that context.
