It looks really good and from what I've seen of the UI/UX it's user-friendly in the way Bluesky is and Mastodon isn't - ThreadSky

Are they going to have a default client that hits the App Store and Google Play Store?

Websites are awesome, but "It needs an app" is the "gotta have a fiddle in the band" for fediverse platforms.

Yup! The PixelFed app is already available on Android, and my understanding from following dansup is the PixelFed iOS app has already been submitted to Apple and is working through review. He has also talked about apps for both iPhone and Android for Loops (you can sign up for the Loops TestFlight).

I think that "Here's a service!", and once people are on the service explaining to them that there are other services they can talk to with their accounts there, may click with people more easily than making them think about protocols from the start. Mastodon tried to move to this model but w/issues

I think you should be able to just sign up for Pixelfed. Loops isn't finished yet, it's in a beta, so they're metering signups until it's ready for mass use.

He's also delegating responsibilities it seems, from all his main apps which is reassuring (it felt like too much/not taking it seriously to have him working on pixelfed, loops, the AP-based telegram-like and don't remember what else at the same time)
